Long-time 7 owner here.
Oh boy... they weren't kidding when they said they weren't going to do anything radical with the successor of the E65. When the E65 came out I hated it with a passion. I even signed some dumbass online petition to have Bangle fired. Then the design grew on me so much that I bought one of the cars (735), trading in my E38 750. When the time came I sold it and bought another (760). This one though? It just looks boring. It's got the interior from the X5, a tail end that's the direct descendant of the current hodgepodge rear design of the 3 and 5 series, and a slightly surprised piggy face. None of these are terrible - but overall, very much ho-hum. Where is the evil smile behind the unsuspecting scrawny golfer? Was that really the same car? Blueish dashboard glow? Visible tailpipes? Rear lights that would be right at home on some Toyota? These are minor annoyances, very much against BMW tradition but I could tolerate them if they gave me a good reason to. I mean, the E65 was very radical and had some questionable design elements but it had novel concepts (iDrive, Dynamic Drive, etc) to make up for them. This one though... evolutionary improvements all over: the X5 interior is not bad, and it'll be great to see it in the 7-series, what with the inevitable quality upgrades. It's great that the onboard computer has a copy of the manual. It's great that the nav system has been given elevation data so it can do what Japanese aftermarket units did 5 years ago. It's great that now you can get ventillated seats for the rear too. It's great that the stereo can copy music to the HD from a thumbdrive. It's all great. It's just really nothing to be excited about. The new 7 arrives with a whimper. I was looking forward to talking to my dealer about trading in my X5 for an F01, but after seeing this... wake me when the V12 is here. |

The Interior looks relaxing, but theres alot i dislike about the exterior. The tail lights look like the new Lexus LS460. Plus it looks fatter, and the BMW signature grill looks too big. I dunno i need to see it before i judge it..

Front is a bit boring , I like the side profile the best. Interior fantastic. Hey, at least the Bangle Butt is gone
Does anyone else feel that the "head-on" shot of the rear reminds you a bit of the old 8-series ( although I haven't seen a 8-series in a while ). |

This is what happens when design and marketing run the show. Someone needs to tell BMW to stop drinking their own Kool-Aid and wake up to the fact that their recent designs are shit.

I willing to deal with ok looks, because the cars drive superior to other makes. But this 7-series is just NASTY. I hope they don't fumble the 5-series looks like this car. That would be a HUGE mistake. Besides the 3-series, the 5er is also their bread-and-butter car. |

... and then they f***** up the end game. Honestly I was so excited about that car and eventhough I saw CAD-Drawings and even undisguised prototypes (without taillights) I wouldn't have thought that it looks so much like a Lexus. Very very disappointing. Need to see the whole thing in natural to judge but the pics don't make me that enthusiastic.

Can`t believe that BMW came up with this!!?? Just as bulky and heavy looking as the previous 7-series. The only real improvement I can see is the the interiour, but it seems like they have removed the amber gauges...??
To me it`s just to ordinary. Where is the CS design? thought that was the new direction... The S-class looks a lot more exclusive, elegant and sporty. Even the A8 looks better. |

Nothing can beat S class in terms of design and beauty , A8 and audi getting better every day , maybe it does look better but overall it is not a better car than 7 and never will be , I really like the interior of A8...Finally the currnet S class will have competitor now , new 7er interior looks nice and driver oriented as it did way back but somehow looks very simple and nothing special , why dont they put a digial analog speedo like S and CL.....or theyre just not trying to be like them

Hmm...the front seems strongly influenced by those pedestrian safety standards in Europe...kind of "upright" and a little bloated, I think. Might grow on me.
I can't really comment on the rear because the pictures of the rear don't seem to show properly on my machine. Instead, I seem to be getting pictures of a Chrysler Sebring. I'll comment on the rear if I can get that problem resolved. |

* awesome *
every problem of the outgoing series solved. Wait with your bashings until youīve seen it in the flesh. Canīt wait for the presentation at our local : The exteriour is much calmer und subtlier styled than the predecessor. I think they found an elegant solution to killing the elephant. And if you americans hate it, thatīs pretty fine with me. Because itīs a german car again. Chears. mo-i |

I can't belive this. This is so japanish Only positive side of this car is interior. I didn't like either front and back. If Audi really improve the current A8 for 2010 that means be ready for the hard times. I don't wanna imagine the same thing would happen to new 5 series.

"Rack-and-pinion steering with variable ratio and hydraulic power

#1 Without us 'Americans' there would not be a German car industry which is so successful. You would not see the 'Teutons' clamoring restlesly to introduce new niches and models every few seconds. So if we 'hate' it, the model is bound to fail, so careful what you wish for, mein herr. #2 To counter your seond point of this being a german car, I beleive so is the S class and the Audi A8, both of which are achingly beautiful in their own right. MB has never in the history of the S-class produced a car that is an evolution rather than a revolution, except maybe the W116 - the W126 transition, which again was distinctly different. The Audi on the other hand is quite nascent in this segment and we may not see a drastic change going forward, but VAG is all about elegance and I respect that. #3 What BMW has done with the F01 is taken the sketch of an E65, given it to a 5 year old and have him go crazy. With crayons. On his bedroom wall. I mean what is with the dip on the headlights and tail lights? Those are the kind of images you would see as a result of a reflection in a funny mirror. #4 As Far as the interior goes, I have to agree that it is a copy of the X5/6. When MB designes an S class, its interior is totally diferent from the rest of the plebian merc range. It sets the standards and the benchmark for the automotive industry to replicate 10 years on. What has BMW done in this regard? They have decided to go back to 2002
