Some of my recent backyard buddies. The catbird babies fledged last week.

Amazing. Do you see it often? Bobcat and river otter are my two NA bucket list animals I haven't had a chance to see yet (I haven't seen a mountain lion either, but not sure I want to run into one in the woods )

I see a bobcat every couple of months. That's just the times I happen to be looking out. We've never seen a mountain lion on our property or in the open space behind our house, but they do reside in the state park that borders our town. I've hiked there for many years but I've never seen one. Sure enough, they have seen me though.

Not really an animal but...
I let him (her ?) get his fill of bees, then sent him on his merry way. Hummingbirds for obvious reasons were staying away.

That is so cool. We get praying mantises in our yard from time to time, but I've not seen on on our hummingbird feeder. Smart for hummingbirds to steer clear.

Here's one on my window.

As the author of this thread, I hereby open the topic to include insects. Let's see where this takes us.

So, originally, this was an animal in my yard.

Technically, after I opened the front door, it was no longer in my yard.

Do I get a bonus point for that, or a demerit?

Bonus points for sure. Did you get him back outside?

I've usually got several hummingbirds close to my patio door since the feeders are close by. I always make sure the screen is shut to I don't get one of those little guys in our house. It would be a total pain to get it back outside.

I did. It was at night, and I think the bird was confused by or attracted to the lights inside. I left lights on in the hallway and the porch light, turned everything else off, then held up a broom and gently shooed the bird towards the open door.

This was actually a greater act of folly, or an act of greater folly, than I’ve said. When I opened the front door and stepped out, I saw a small pile of crusty white and black debris on the ground, and realized it was bird droppings. And I saw this little guy nested in the eave overhead. If it’s possible for a bird to look sleepy, this bird looked sleepy. I thought, Hey this will be a fun photo for the Animals In Your Yard thread. So I took out my phone, and snapped a photo. The flash startled the bird, and it flew straight into the house.

So I thought this was some kind of cat with a long tail, and Google keeps suggesting ringtail, which it definitely is not. Gray fox?

gray fox

I've only seen a couple in the wild and they are very cat-like. I've had them on my night cam in Upstate NY a few times. They look like your pic
