When I had my ill-fated 2022 S580, I was having lunch at a sidewalk cafe and even though the car was around 20' away from me, the door handles kept popping out, then retracting, then popping out, etc. I wonder if in the same situation, the EQS would keep opening the doors? I'm assuming that there must be a provision so that doesn't happen.

With so many of these "NEW & IMPROVED" gizmos, such as the pop-out door handles, I wish the automakers would make them OPTIONAL! The crazy dash on the new 7 should be optional. Oh well.

I'm OK with screens. I'm OK with looks. But I'm not OK with missing iDrive controller. I'm not OK with more and more missing buttons. BMW was always known for good ergonomics. What happened to them?

My favorite thing about the iDrive controller is that I can keep fingerprints on the screen to a minimum. Ever seen a screen full of fingerprints? Looks disgusting; very unbecoming for a luxury car.

With physical controls, such as the iDrive controller, one is able to accomplish some tasks without taking their eyes off the road. I use it for changing radio stations. I use the wheel roller on the center console to adjust the volume.

Anything that takes a driver’s eyes off the road is detrimental to driving safety. I know that we can use voice commands, which I do use to activate the seat massage & set a destination, but I MUCH prefer physical controls. Removing the iDrive controller is a bad move in my opinion.

Unfortunately, there is just no way around it as new software layouts have made it impossible to avoid them. They’ve adopted the concept of “layers” and touch, which a rotary knob simply can’t accommodate well (just like using carplay features with a rotary).

If I take a quick look at every modern luxury sedan from the top brands in the sub 200K range, and intentionally remove the logo from the steering wheel side to focus on the dashboard and concept than brands bias, I see nothing but screens everywhere.

We’re in the 2026+ era, and only the best software will prevail. That’s the only real competition between them. They’re all adopting screen-focused layouts and prioritizing functionality over design.

My friend Streamliner, maybe some people/kids assume the older people no longer matter for decisions made by designers. Lol, kidding aside, this is where maturity and long-term experience/perspective become priceless. Am sure designers will adjust all of this and listen to the market. Am willing however to give any of these new software and screen layouts a try. Am sure they are VERY functional but my eyes need to get trained on admiring a screen than wood and a luxury looking dashboard.

Yes, that is absolutely correct. And the way it comes on, is really disturbing: One day you are relevant, the next day you can't get the time of day from much of anyone. Oh well, living well is the best revenge, right?

Just like my G12, happy with the pre-LCI

However when my lease is up, I am not sure there is any other car to get in this segment (not a fan of the S Class) so will get this lol

Same exact sitiuation here. Except that I have no lease or anything. Am just driving this thing for as long as I continue to enjoy it or until there is anything out there that feels better or enough for me to trade-in.
In the meantime, am thinking that a Panamera PHEV with Active Ride or another 7-series are the only logical options that can be better or just as good for me, from the cosemetics as well as functionality point of views.

Well said lol. It's like there is no way around it. Doing what you want, when you want does have its advantages though.
