2025 GV80 Coupe Looks Insane

NGL, this thing looks so good, probably the best coupe SUV out there.
This car looks like it should have at least 450 horses, too bad their 3.5T V6 only make 375. Part of me want them to source a German V8 and stuff it in there but part of me also don't want them to lose the reliability lol.

I think that while these cars are getting BETTER and BETTER, they are also getting way pricier to the point they are just as expensive as X5s... makes these a very hard sell vs the German competition.

Like you said, the German Engine / Tranny combos are still many levels above the Koreans and so is the dealer experience... I just don't see my self paying nearly 70K for this car.

It's the same as all concept vehicles; pie in the sky fantasticness that will never see the light of day.

Immediately remove:

- The wheels, tires and their fitment
- The headlights/tail lights
- The brakes

Without those things it's just a big-mouth meh like all the others.

Yeah, also have to taking into the account that these "lesser" brand such as Acura, Lexus, Genesis are under cutting the German by fully loading the car with equipment instead a stripper car at that price point as well. A fully loaded X5 40i will run you up to 85k and x6 40i will run you up to almost 90k, fully loaded GV80 is only 72k.

I just think that BMW design have gone so far off, maybe they should consider hiring some Korean designers lmao.

LOL Do your homework.
The head designer of Genesis is Belgian. He's previously done stints at marques such as Bentley and Audi.

Google says GV80 designer is SangYup Lee, pretty sure that's not a Belgian name. Who cares about head of design, they are like supervisor who approves the work. If I did a project I did most of the work, supervisor and manager just approve and review my work. Give credit where credit is due.

Have you heard of GLC/GLE Coupe? It's the same concept, BMW just call it by an entirely different model number X4/X6.

That's an SUV, not a coupe.
Also, 375 HP in that heavy thing? No.

Finally, the poster that mentioned out of control pricing earlier is spot on.

I mean, the newly refreshed X5 40i power just got bumped to 375 from 335, both goes 0-60 in 5.3s, I don't doubt X5 will be faster cause German always being reserved. Genesis is only 150lb heavier than the 40i xdrive, so like an extra passenger.
If you look at how much more you need to add to get both car in the same spec with all the tech and premium upholstery you are looking at 85k+ vs 72k. My cousin was shopping for a car and we went checking out a GV80, I think their interior build quality and comfortability is just as good as an X5 if not better.
I think Genesis just lose on brand recognition and dealership network. I rarely see any Genesis other than when I go to K-town, all been driven by Koreans. You see a lot of Hyundai and Kia because they are the equivalent to Honda and Toyota. If people want a luxury car they would go shop for BMW Mercedes or Audi, or even Acura, Lexus, and Infinite before looking at Genesis, that's just the reality.
All the car prices are up due to inflation, its just the world we live in. MDX Type S also cost 73k fully loaded with less power, so I think Genesis got their price right.
Is it expensive? Yes.
Is it expensive compare to other luxury brand? No.

If it's due to inflation then why have wages not kept up? Why is the AVERAGE car payment now over $700? Come on, you can't be that naive

What do you mean wage is not going up? When I first started working back in 2019, Engineer 1 was making 65k, now they make 80k fresh out of college. My friend making 60k as accountant back 2021 then and now fresh out of college he say he make 70k. Also if you haven't noticed grocery has been expensive asf and fast food is more expensive than local restaurant food. Electricity bill along went up 15% for me since last year during this time. idk what kind of world you live in but prices are going up for everything now, cars are no exception.

Not true.

There's already a GV80 SUV. This would be the coupe version of that, similar to Mercedes GLE SUV vs. the GLE Coupe versions. Both MB and now Genesis differentiates their SUV from their Coupe versions. I don't see an issue with this nomenclature.

The GV80 SUV is classified mid-sized, like the MB GLE and BMW X6. The GLE starts at 362 hp and the X6 starts at 375 hp. The GV80's HP is no worse than what the Germans are doing.

Re weight, the X6 is 2,400 KG. The GV80 is around 2,300 KG, so it's less of heavy than the similar BMW. The GV80 Coupe is likely to follow suit.

And finally on pricing, you have to look beyond the initial price. Generally speaking, Korean vehicles come with more standard features that are added cost options on German vehicles. If you option both cars with the same features, then the Korean version is the lower price. There's no indication the GV80 Coupe will be different.

No one except the Germans to blame for starting this SUV "coupe" bullshit. You want a coupe? Get a damn coupe. Want an SUV? Get an actual SUV. This looks just as stupid as the GLE Coupe and X4 and X6, vehicles that remove the practical benefits of a normal SUV while adding the drawbacks of a coupe. Screams "I don't know anything about cars but I want others to think I'm cool".

Something is either an SUV or a coupe. This thing is an SUV.

No, I don't have to look beyond the MSRP. All new cars are out of control price wise.

I said wages are not keeping up with inflation. The cost of everything has dramatically increased yet my wife nor myself have magically received any massive raises. You have? That's awesome for you. I'm happy for you. Genuinely, no sarcasm. However, that is not the norm.

Furthermore, $80k, for example, does not get you nearly as much as it used to. These are facts. Nowadays, $80k is just getting by. It might be the new $40k

With all due respect, good or bad, I think we need to give AMC credit where credit is due. They were way ahead of the Germans in this segment dating all the way back to the 80's - with their Eagle
