The first batch of solid-state batteries in now in BMW's hands

Encouraging.

https://carbuzz.com/news/bmw-one-ste...s-ev-dominance

"Solid-state batteries are being specifically developed for the company's Neue Klasse models, which will kick off with the next-gen BMW 3 Series in around 2025, previewed by the Vision Neue Klasse concept. Thereafter, they will proliferate to the rest of the range as models make the switch, and we could even see them in small electric city cars due to the lightweight and compact nature of solid-state batteries."

In addition ...

According to a recent study done by Nikkei, Toyota is the owner of more solid-state patents, despite its hesitancy to go full electric.

Good news I hope. The end of lithium batteries is a good thing IMO
Now if BMW would put the Solid-state batteries in the X5 xDrive50e I would consider that.

X5 with solid state batteries would get my vote and a decision to buy.

Still has lithium anode

You had to go rain on my happy train.

Here is my optimism, this is a good article:
Replacing the highly reactive liquid electrolyte with a solid-state electrolyte, which is inherently safer and mechanically more rigid, increases the battery’s energy density without compromising safety.
Solid-state battery technology incorporates solid metal electrodes as well as a solid electrolyte. Although the chemistry is generally the same, solid-state designs avoid leakage and corrosion at the electrodes, which reduces the risk of fire and lowers design costs because it eliminates the need for safety features. The solid electrolyte design also allows for a smaller form factor, meaning less weight. Most importantly, solid-state batteries are expected to overcome the current limitations of energy density. It is believed that using metallic lithium will, theoretically, double the capacity of the Li-ion cell technology if adequately designed. Metal lithium has a ten times higher capacity than standard carbon anodes used in current Li-ion batteries.

So a switch to solid-state batteries in the X5 xDrive50e would make it safer and weigh less and maybe BMW could do away with the silly air ride suspension system they us in EV's. A car guy and only hope.
