Coding a 7 Series?

I read all the time about people coding features in/out/on/off on their BMWs but have never really paid too much attention to it. There are some significant features that might be nice to tailor to suit, but one thing I'm not entirely clear on is how it is done. Is it something the owner can do or only aftermarket shops? I understand the dealers typically won't do it.

it's done with the aid of E-sys a program which I believe is used (or potentially) used at the factory and perhaps specialist technicians. The local dealer will not have it .
Along with a Ethernet OBD cable its plugged in to the OBD port on the car.
Then ensuring you have the correct pszdata files (either the version your car comes equipped with or a later version) you can read in the all of the values the car is programmed with , make changes and write them back.
These pszdata file are like I guess a sort of template that lists everything the car can potentially have.
There is also the option of changing the vehicle order. (VO) so you can add options if the hardware is present.
If you are familiar with the registry in windows, it looks a but like that where you make changes to values and write them back to the car.

All unofficial obviously and if the dealer decides to update the cars software , any settings you have made get overridden.

I've made a few changes on my car and its worth doing but there is an element of risk involved - you have to follow instructions very carefully. Its straightforward though having said that.

Many here on the forums have done considerably more than me and the brave ones are the one who have tried out settings to discover what everyone is coding these days.

You will find some settings are market specific so you can enable a feature that wouldn't normally be enabled in your country but is elsewhere.
Some features seem to be in there hidden before they are made standard in later models. one example might be the telephone and entertainment list being displayed in the HUD.

Given this is the new G11 thread, I'm sure there will be some cool neat features to come out with this new model. Some will be of interest for the forthcoming G30 as well.

Just to add, it's complicated the first few times if one isn't Software savvy, uncomfortable with German (it's mostly English but some German is needed), or just afraid as it is possible to really screw the pooch for more advanced/complex changes.

BMW began "trimming" (encryption of the base data files) a little while ago to try to destabilize the use of non-authorized copies of the software programs. Because the G series has a number of new control modules, previous or pre-production databases are not able to be used to de-trim the files with guaranteed accuracy. Some ECU's can be read and coded with the usual copies of the software, but others require an official copy if one wants to code every module possible now.o

Does anyone know the current/voltage needed to firmware flash a G series platform?

Wondering if the Schumacher INC-700A is sufficient at 70amps?

I know nothing about coding other than the results. I've had my current M5 and other cars coded by Rich in NYC. He does quality, non-issue coding and I highly recommend him for the remote coding of your car. Happy to share his details if anyone is interested!

I personally know Rich.. He codes all my cars. He currently is working on figuring out how to code these new 7 series. He said it's tough. He said once he figures it out that he was going to call me. Hope he figures it out soon.

I can code the new 7 series no problem. It's minimal options such as folding mirrors with key, windows up with key, removal of seat belt chimes, amber delete, removal of legal disclaimers, rolls Royce gong (the new one.)

DVD in motion is only for clients local to Los Angeles & New York (will not do remote.)

Most of the functions have the same names; one exception being enabling closing of trunk with KeyFOB.

I was able to enable Video in Motion on ID4 for HU_NBT2, but only up to 63 kmh on ID5. How did you figure out DVD in motion? Is it with hardware or just coding?

Among others, I can do the following:

Enable/Disable Horn when locking vehicle with engine running
Fold mirrors/ roll up windows with keyfob and CA
Remove Mirror / Window Initiation Delay with CA and KeyFOB
Remember Auto Start Stop Setting when shutdown
Unlock doors when Engine stopped if either auto-locked during driving or manually locked
Enable Fog Lights with Parking Lights
Enable Fog Lights with High Beams
Allow Front Window Roll Up when doors opened
Allow Rear Window Roll Up when doors opened
Close Trunk with KeyFOB
Remove Seat Belt Warnings
Disable Headlight Washers
Enable HVAC to Remember Settings when vehicle shutdown
Disable Turning on A/C if AUTO is pressed
Disable Seat Belt Status in Cluster (Passenger/ Driver)
Disable Seat Belt Reminder (Driver/ Passenger)
Disable Seat Belt Disconnected Reminder Sound (Driver/ Passenger)
Disable Initial Belt Warning
Disables 1st fuel warning at 50 miles
Efficient Dynamics Graph Direction (Left to Right or Right to Left)
Trip Computer Auto Reset (Never/ Always/ 4 Hours)
Enables HUD Distance Info
LIM FUNCTION
Disable Cluster ASS notification
Enable/Disable Speed Correction
Cameras at All Speeds
Various (12+) Head Unit Functions (Disclaimer Removal, Entire SMS message, British Navigation Voice, Tire Pressure & Temp, etc)

If you using TM's E-sys Launcher Premium, you will only be able to code HU_NBT2. Pro is required to read the other ECU's.

Newest I-STEP added that feature (November release). 10/16 Builds, without update, do not have.

What version of Esys and PZData are you guys using? Used G12 and S15A as connecting parameters but when try to Read SVT throws error, need to use Read ECU then Edit FDL code also throw some more exception.

I am using:
ESys 2.6.2.124
PZData 60.2

Thanks
