internet design experts <> buyers. Anything and everything BMW comes out with they hate on...yet BMW sales are strong.

I suspect that all of the haters would not buy one even if they loved it.

I disagree with your statement but I agree the E38 might be the top of the heap. I think the E34 is top one or two of the 5er too. That era made some classic BMW's that will never be unattractive. I think we'll look back and say the same about the G's.

I know the E38 and E34 don't really match up in years, but you get the idea.
The E39 would be my favourite M5, and quite possibly one of the most elegant BMW's made (along with the E46 M3). BMW has lost its way with subtly and understated design. But it seems that doesn't sell cars.

Yeah the E39 is obviously special and a favorite across most enthusiasts. Maybe that's part of my attraction to the E34. Doesn't get as much love, kind of an underrated vibe.

The E39's design was hated by the internet design experts back in the day...

True, but if I'm paying 100K for a wife, I expect her looks to be off the charts I don't want to have to learn to love her face.

If you get married and all you're out is $100k, you should keep your mouth shut and be happy!

I think every new design produces reactions on both sides but
the E39 was introduced in 1995, probably revealed in 1994, well before widespread use of the Internet and/or social media.

The Bangle Butt may have been the thing that created the most controversy; at least for me it drove me from BMW (I did have a E39) to Mercedes for a quite a few years -- I didn't come back to BMW until 2012.

They need that luxury trim on the ICE models. But that chrome between the windows is terrible.
