Cargo restraint nets / bungee cords?

Hi folks; please be gentle; I'm new here, and apologies if I've posted in the wrong place. I can't find anything on this from Search, but I might be doing that wrong too.

We just got our 740xi two days ago, and, given that the trunk is the size of a small boat we were impressed by the eye hooks and rear hooks for attaching cargo nets or bungee cords to stop cargo from sliding around.

But I can't see anything suitable in the BMW online shop, and even WeatherTech is coming up a blank for me. I know that there are generic nets and bungee cords that would work fine, but was interested to know if anyone has found anything particularly good for the 7 series trunk layout.

I just have a generic bungee securing my after-market spare tire/wheel to the forward area in my trunk.

I have been VERY happy with the tailgate protector that I installed - purchased from BMW I believe. Attached nicely to the interior fittings in the trunk. It drapes over the rear bumper when I'm loading suitcases or cargo.

I don't use bungees and hooks but there is a BMW rubberized trunk mat that fits well and is pretty good at stopping things from sliding around. I could not find a mat anywhere else but that was a year ago.

Ah, that's interesting. Do you have a link to that mat still?

I got some of https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BVG1N54C which seem like they'll do the job, but I'll report back here once we try them out.

It seems like the nets on Amazon for the 7 series all specify the pre-G70 years, so I assume the eye hooks are in different places for the G70 (makes sense).

I think the part # is 51475A56C44. That is for a 760ix. Not sure the other models are the same.

Ah nice—I see a number of dealerships carry it, including our one (as 51-47-5-A56-C44), and they say that it fits all G70.

I'm not sure if a friction solution is going to work for our use cases. It would work great for something heavy, relatively rigid, with a flat bottom (e.g., boxes of alcohol bottles, which was today's errand). For bags of shopping or other things it would stop them sliding but not from tumbling.

Using friction would also be a bit of a dilemma in terms of loading and unloading. You want to be able to slide heavy things in and out, especially since the trunk is so deep. With a rubber mat you basically need to lift things all the way in and out. I'm not sure that my back (or my wife's) would survive that sort of cantilevering. I would think that sliding in full-size luggage (which doesn't need to be prevented from moving around) would also get more difficult.

It looks like a great option to have when it suits (and especially for things that might be wet or messy), if you have the space to store it when you're not using it.

Yes, right about tumbling but sliding is easier than on the OEM carpetlike surface. For tumblling, we use a collapsible crate, sometimes two.

I think for the i7 and the PHEVs this would be the correct part number:
51475A582B4

Got this as well. It doesn't look as cool as the leather mat for the last generation which had real nice stitching and a cool "7" emblem, but it does the job
