Wind Noise
Anyone experiencing excessive wind noise from the driver’s side window? It seems to me that the wind noise is louder than it should be.

Not noticed anything unusual.Several reviewers commented on mirror wind noise but I've not experienced it.I've posted on other threads wondering why BMW would not use acoustic glass on their flagship model when it's shown on the X7.The car is very quiet but AG would provide that little extra at minimal cost.Would have dealer check seals etc.if it's that bothersome.

The only time I’ve heard any wind noise is when it’s very windy outside and even then I’ve only heard it a few times. Other than that it’s very quiet

I guess this is because of the shape of the car itself. Lets face it, the new 7 is certainly like a brick on wheels and thus it just cannot cope being hit by wind. It would have been good if the 7 has noise cancellation like the EQS. |

It is not just the driver side. It is both sides but since we are driving the car we hear it from the driver side. The wind noise is normal and only way to avoid is to get ride of the side mirror but acoustic glass would have dampened it

I brought it to the dealer and have it checked. The technician sent the noise clip to BMW for evaluation and according to my service advisor there is no fix at this time. I am hoping more of us would bring it to the attention of BMW and maybe they will find a fix for it.
The wind noise issue is unacceptable. |

I started to notice it recently - mainly because I've been driving with the stereo off. I suspected a few times maybe the windows have been slightly opened but no - it's the wind noise. Pretty annoying

It's most likely to be more noticeable on the 740i which,I think, just has tempered non laminated glass on the side windows. But I see a couple with a 760i have posted also.I am normally very sensitive to noise issues but, again,I'm not noticing it as an issue. There is extensive general on line material about wind noise around external mirrors and aero solutions for same. The car has a squareish upright appearance but has a low CD number and underwent extensive aero and sound reduction testing per car specific online material. Most reviewers and testers have commented on the quietness of the car.Sorry to see folks are having problems. If BMW deems there is a problem they could probably come up with a pretty simple solution like a mirror cap etc. Also, there are even stick on aftermarket aero aids, which some may think are a little tacky and cheap looking.

Don't get me wrong; I love my i7 but the build quality could have been 100 times better for the price BMW is charging for it. |

BMW wants to compete with MB S-class with the 7 series. BMW still miles away. BMW really needs to up their game. I really hope that BMW will come up with a fix with this wind noise issue.

I also have excessive wind noise at the driver side, more than in my X5.
Also there is a very loud whistling noise from the area of the driver side window when I go faster than 60mph. It comes most likely from the side mirror assembly. Right now, the car is at the dealership to get it fixed. |

This may be some kind of seal problem since some seem to be experiencing it and others not.Hopefully, the dealer can come up with a solution. On the subject of build quality, both my G12 and G70 have much better build quality than my two W222 S -Classes. Can't speak to the W223.

The dealer could not reproduce the concern. Still have excessive wind noise above 60 mph and a whistling above 70/75 mph. Dealer told me there is no whistling at normal highway speeds, so they kind of told me stay under 65 mph and everything is fine. One of my many quality issues with my 760 😂

It’s the same on both sides. If you sit in passenger side it is identical noise. Sounds to be coming from side mirror noise and is normal when compared to other G70 vehicles.

To DoubleExpresso did you ask that the tech or shop foreman ride with you to hear the noise? To freshxdough -in your experience as a master tech is the noise worse than in other BMW's or bad enough to warrant a solution from BMW?Do you know if it's being considered by BMW?Thanks for any answers.

No I did not, but taped the mirror pieces step by step myself and test drove. It originates from the mirror (the triangle part at the window where the mirror is attached to). I have more window noise on the 760i at 60mph than I had on my X5. Even my F150 is quieter at 65 mph - I'm not joking. At around 70 mph and over I get also a loud whistle noise coming from the driver side window/mirror.
My BMW tech said he can reproduce because they can't drive faster than 60 mph in the area, which I understand. But that issue should not happen on a $150K brand new car. |

This thread made me pay attention to the issue on mine too. I can now notice it when I go say 70mph but not sure what BMW can do to address without redesigning the mirror or using acoustic glass to dampen the noise so I doubt they will ever address it before LCI
