The bar for production car VMax has raised slowly

Well, obviously we're talking about virtual hypotheticals, who's really doing 0-60 max runs all the time as well? The gas car industry is really slow in terms of performance innovations, we're still at low 200s for max speed for production cars.

Anyway, I'm just saying there aren't any great strides, you'd think we'd be @300 and beyond by now, but it's all about 'is there a new cupholder design' and what's the latest faddy seat or dash material. Meh. |

Ultimately it comes down to practicality. Better to make cars quicker rather than faster. I used to work in Germany and rented Porsches a few times because being able to pass the riff raff limited to 250kph was kind of fun. But even at 165mph it was exceedingly rare to be passed by something going faster. A couple of other Porsches and Ferraris would very rarely overtake. At 165 - 175, you're not left with a huge margin of error. Scaling that up to 200, 250, or 300 just seems like a quick way to remove some rich folks from the planet. |

Pardon my French, but who the fuck needs a "production" car that goes 300 MPH? This is such a stupid topic of discussion. Hardly anyone who can afford a "production" car can safely drive above 80 MPH, yet you think the manufacturers of production automobiles should be able to build a 300 MPH "production" car. In reality, a better cupholder IS a laudable engineering effort, so as to make a device that can securely hold a myriad of container sizes and allow the driver to un-distractedly remove the container while driving. While you don't realize it, making a better cupholder is an improvement for society, while a 300 MPH production car is not.

No, I got the point...

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Nah, like I said, it's a stupid discussion. You just don't understand physics nor business, so progress to 300 MPH for a "production" car seems slow to you because you don't understand the difficulty of it. Essentially, the difficulty goes up by the square of the velocity. Good engineering practice uses the laws of physics to gain achievements not fight against them. Overcoming difficulty costs money.
