It's not an upgrade, just a change in appearance. But yes it can be coded.

After looking at it, there really isn't any major differences other then the way its laid out. Tiles and what not.

I've decided to just leave it.

Very easy to do, use the bimmercode app. You can do a bunch of changes with it.

Get the https://www.amazon.com/OBDLink-Bluet...05fa93848acd79

Then it is fairly straightforward, connect > Head Unit > Expert > HMI_ID_VERSION > id6_light

Why would one lose the NAV function by switching from ID5 to ID6? They are essentially the same thing, except for layout of the main menu.

You won't lose anything. Coding iDrive 6 does NOT affect navigation/FSCs.

I realize this is a date post, but I noticed in a video I was watching, Bimmercode gives both the "ID6 lite" and "ID6" option. The dude was sure to select ID6 lite but what's the difference and can you select ID6 full if you currently have ID5?

Probably hardware-related but NBT with ID5 can only be changed to ID6 Lite; selecting ID6 will simply give you a blank screen. My '18 X3 came with ID6 from the factory, but according to Bimmercode it's ID6 "Lite", too.

Damn it, doesn't work on f02 lci with nbt. Bimmercode doesn't have a option for any of it. Oh well.
