WANTED: G11 G12 climate control aluminum bezel/trim
I am hoping one of you reading these posts who has done the upgrade of installing G11/G12 touch screen climate controls in a G30 or replaced a faulty dead pixel/line unit is willing to part with the original aluminum bezel - without scratches as mine is scratched... My location these days is the San Diego, California area.

You can see the original "brushed" striations through the vertical scratches. So, IMHO, this is repairable.
The key is to match the "brush" grain size...and for best results, I'd remove the control panel, but tape above and below the metal would work too. Using a green scrub pad (used the same to refresh "brushed" texture on a Tag Heuer wrist band), I'd brush in one direction only, then lightly follow up with a Cape Cod polishing cloth to provide a uniform color, which is available at True Value Hardware, or Amazon. If this is too risky, happy to trade my perfect unit from my G12 B7 for yours, locally, but you'll have to give up the air fresheners in your glove box too...😁 |

Yes...and use it lightly, very lightly. You could try and use 0000 steel wool, but it might leave steel dust behind, and sandpaper will dig in too deep, and will ruin the "brush".
Go only in one direct. You will not get rid of the scratch, you will knock down the edge that reflects the scratch only (similar to paint correction). The Cape Cod polishing cloth should do most of the work...but not to the level of changing the surface to a "highly polished". If you mess it up, you can always stop by Sorrento Valley, and we can swap. Last edited by M_Bimmer; 03-14-2024 at 01:34 PM.. |
