Assume that the updated V8 will make its way over to the G05 M50i for MY 2020? Is the V8 the same N63 in the M850i?

the 2020 M550i will receive the new motor - but the current M550i motor I believe is already using a version similar to the M850 as the motor is very underrated and is good for 539hp and 589tq stock as measured by Dinan.

whereas the n63 used in the non-LCI 7 series, 650i, etc, dynos pretty much exactly at the rated power figures in the 450hp range.

still looking for an M850i dyno however as I want to see what they are making.

Like others - I hate those grills. So ridiculous. Out of proportion. Overly trendy (and therefore will be quickly dated - especially as electric vehicles become more popular which don't need grills at all and people get used to that look). Not necessary. Thank god they didn't do this with the 8 series coupe.

My main problem with these grills is not necessarily the size but the shape. The shape looks like a normal BMW grill which has been proportionally enlarged in all dimensions.

Because of that, it looks like someone took a normal grill and enlarged it in photoshop.

As a result the car looks like a bad photoshop job in regards to the grill. If the shape were molded more into the front ends new angular design i think the sheer size alone wouldn't be as much of an issue.

Regardless, overall it's a nice update

UPDATED
Just a sampling from my fellow car-fans (many who own BMWs) after showing them these posts/pics.

-"It's just the Bangle Bustle moved to the front"
-"Oh great, more Edsel aesthetics ”
-“About as attractive as a Grouper’s Mouth”
-“not functional, not aerodynamic, not attractive at any angle”
-“Come on BMW, LEAD DON’T FOLLOW – Audi/Lexus into grill oblivion!”
-“I was considering moving from my 5 to a new 7, forget it now!”
-“Killing a perfectly wonderful automobile with toothy grill bling, grow up!”
-"what happened to understated elegance?"
-"Haven't we reached PEAK BLING yet?"
-“This styling mistake (along with Lexus/Audi) will go down as the Mullet of car fashion”
I personally can’t add a thing to these ;-)

I find it funny that the hockey stick was the major complaint for the first version, I think this one looks much worse from a design standpoint, but everyone's concerned about the grills.

Everybody has their favorite part -- or unfavorite part. I am reserving judgment until I see it in person, and I am looking forward to that. So far, there are a lot of things to like even if the grille is considered a negative. Same goes for the hockey sticks. From what I have seen the M package ameliorates the hockey sticks. I don't have the M package on my '17 but frankly got used to the hockey sticks very quickly. I am guessing the grille will not deter me if I like the driving dynamics and ergonomics.

Wow, new 8-cylinder engine with 0-60 on 3.9 seconds? Isn't it the same for M4? If so, the new 7 is a speed boat; used to be just a boat....

xDrive and many torquey.

This V8 is on par with the F10 M5. Which is just crazy.

Still M4 is more agile than this speed boat.

Looks good. Anyone know if the shorter wheelbase is coming back to the US?

The monstrous grill kills the looks of this car. It's insane that they went with something like that.

The revised V8 has great specs. If they also finally fixed the issues that plagued earlier versions of the N63, that would be awesome.

The grille looks positively absurd. It's wildly unnecessary and fails to make the car look any more aggressive, elegant or modern.

How does BMW revert back to smaller grilles going forward? Look at Audi, the grilles across the entire model range have only gotten bigger and bigger...

The grill situation needs to stop. It's starting to get ridiculous. BMW can you hear us from over there?!?!

I actually like the look of the Big Grill on the X5 and X7 because they can absorb the look since they are SUV's. On the new 7 it looks kind of odd and disproportionate. Not a fan
