Ambi Light LED strip

So I have noticed my lower ambiental LED strip is lighting very uneaven and bearly visable at some places, and it is the same on all 4 door panels and the dash trim. The upper one lights good but the lower one is very uneaven. Did someone have the same problem?

Do you have any pictures? I have one tiny spot on the upper strip on the dash that has discoloured slightly you can see it in day but at night the light emitting from the strip hides it.

Mine is the same way.

It's not terrible, but it is noticeable. It's a 2016 model, so I'm wondering if it's a first year problem. None of the others I've been in or had as loaners have this problem.

I had a problem with the ambient lighting when I had my car. If it doesnt fix itself, the dealer will fix if under warranty.

So i took the passanger door trim apart and took a look at the ambi light assembly, there seems nothing to be out of place, but only thing I noticed is the see through plastic light guide that runs through the door trim had some lines like it was broken and the light seems to be lower on thease parts.

Unfortunatley they can not be bought separtetly but only comes with the trim.

the plastic light tubes work like fiber optics and probably degraded or developed cracks due to heat/aging.

You are correct, but it is also bad quality that on a 3 year old car this happens.

I agree--I also see others complaining on Bimmerpost about uneven ambient lights in their brand-new BMW's. I wonder if the supplier has QC issue or whether this happens to other makes. I also see that the newer bimmers have different ambient lighting, with straight pipes rather than curved ones, perhaps to address the tendency for the light tube to crack.

So I have managed to buy the new optical fibers for all 4 doors and replaced them and now it is perfect, all is even and much brighter.

However the front trim optical fibers does not come separate but only with the whole trim which is expensive.

Nice one my car is three years old as well and they seem to be very dim on the lower half as you describe.

Do you have the part numbers by chance?
