Lightbulb All New Electric Successor to the R8 incoming...

As I and others here have mentioned, ELECTRIC is here to stay... In a BIG way.
Heck, most manufacturers have goals to completely discontinue Ice in only a year or 2 from now. Including Audi...

Audi is reportedly developing an all-electric successor to its R8 supercar, expected to launch in the mid-2020s.

While it won’t bear the R8 name, the electric vehicle (EV) will be positioned at the top of Audi’s lineup, offering higher performance than the e-tron GT.

Audi aims to discontinue fuel-driven models after 2025, making an electric R8 successor inevitable.

While specific details about the EV are yet to be disclosed, it will likely share some components with Porsche’s electric models, continuing their collaboration in EV development.

I wonder what happens to these batteries when they sit unused for months at a time during winter.

Personally i have no desire in EV sports car.
For a daily that sits in traffic, yes there is a purpose for EV.

Where are you getting information that Audi is discontinuing fuel driven vehicles after 2025?? That's not correct. They are continuing with gas powered (some hybrid/electrified, some EV) for most of the models for their entire next generation lineup (save for the R8 as it was discontinued).

I don't work for Audi. I simply read various articles as we all do.

It won't affect me either way. If all makers go EV, there's still a plethora of gas powered vehicles on earth to choose from. Or I can also see myself in an EV too.

1. The owner could worry about that.
2. The car would get used in winter where I live.
3. Keeping it connected to the charging unit would mitigate those concerns.

Wonder if all the cool gas powered cars will skyrocket in price when the world is all EV.

Similar to the suddenly nonsense classic car world where normal folks can't afford most of them anymore

If you are in the right market. I live in farm country PA. Not exactly charging station mania out here.

The infrastructure of the US is not nearly ready for full EV yet...

I have a buddy who works for the government.
They are giving out major contracts, I'm talking Hundreds of Millions with more to come, if you can help improve the EV charging infrastructure. Meaning, create more stations. Especially along highways and areas where they are scarce.

That's actually a great question. I've wondered this myself.
Will ICE vehicles plumit in value or increase?
I believe they will lose value because more and more restrictions worldwide will cause the eventual demise of even gas stations.

Just what everyone wants, another overpowered and overweight and soulless electric car. Sounds boring as shit.

Only the wealthy will be able to enjoy ICE cars just like there are no restrictions for them to fly around private jets, sail around the world in massive yachts or have enormous mansions.

The fact is all these performance cars are typically weekend cars for most average folks and therefore have zero impact on the environment. The performance EV will have much worse environmental impact as all the pollution is in the manufacturing of the battery.

The people bidding on these contracts have zero concerns on long term reliability of the charging stations. Once they are built, they move on to the next build.

Same situation with wind farms, building them is the easy part but maint / repair and making $$$ is where the challenge lies.

At the end of the day, energy costs will skyrocket and owning a car will be more expensive for average person. There is no free lunch to build and maintain all this new infrastructure.

So you're an insider with both the stations and wind farms? It doesn't really sound like it.

Charging stations in comparison to a gas station seem like a cinch. Anywhere that has some distro power, slap down a 1000-2500kva transformer, inverter and run your stalls, bury everything underground and done. No environmental studies and permitting like what's required to get a tank dug, etc etc etc. Not sure if you've ever bought land, but buying land that used to have a gas station and the resulting reclamation process is a pain in the ass. If anyone has leads or contacts on any of these supposed "subsidies" into building charging stations, please send them my way.

Can't speak to wind farms in terms of development, or maintenance first hand, but I can tell you the solar guys are the ones who complain about an aging fleet of panels, not the wind guys.

My friend go do some research or better yet call a company like Siemens Energy and ask them about operations of one of their wind farms. The turbines need to be cleaned, repaired and maintained. That is not cheap and when its down, its not making $$$.
These charging stations will get built for sure with govt $$$ but who is going to run and maintain them? At the end of the day, it has to be profitable for it to work.

Almost everything needs to be maintained to work. Are you suggesting that our current coal and fossil fuel infrastructure doesn't?

Government subsidies are no stranger to the fossil fuel industry. The EV infrastructure will likely operate in a similar manner, with subsidies boosting a burgeoning technology until it becomes unheard of to even think it wasn't going to be profitable. Energy is energy, there will be profit because there will be demand, regardless how and why that demand came to be.
