The precision/aggression ranking setup is a nice concept - but in the end it's still lacking. If you are leading someone and brake for a corner, you get aggression points for 'blocking' (and are likely to get more aggression points for trading paint when the shit AI rams you or flys past you on the inside and runs you off the road). By the same token, drafting/slipstreaming is always considered as aggressive driving. Clean drafting should be precision points - save the aggression points for bump drafting.

Maybe they should have done a four way ranking - clean/dirty tactics, and precision/aggression style.

My ratio so far is something like 8 to 1 for precision over aggression - but it would be an even bigger ratio if I didn't get slapped with aggression points due to the AI's tactics.
I agree. It doesn't make sense at times. I'd say my precision/aggression ratio is somewhere around 10:1.

I found out what really breaks the handling physics in this game: Steep upward gradients. They will annoy the hell out of you, or at least they do for me. I guess the developers were trying to follow the exaggerated-everything theme too closely, because if you drive any car with even a moderately stiff suspension on a rising slope, the car will compress, skid, bounce, basically do everything but keep its composure and go where it's supposed to.

I don't know how they don't catch these things. Tracks like the Nurburgring (and this one course in desert-esque settings with tons of vertical fluctuations and small-radius turns) are broken at times when you get to these upward slopes. You have to back off of the throttle and just let go of the joystick and the car will sort of just figure itself out, hopefully. It shouldn't be like that.

Bottom line question - Is this game worth $60? I kind of want to buy it tonight but I'm not so sure now.

Collins has a good point, but that may be a waste of cash.^

It depends. Do you like Project Gotham or Grid? It's like those, but a little better. I'm not sure if it's worth $60 to everyone. To me, yeah, I guess. I'm going to play it to the point that it'll be worth $60 in my eyes. I just don't see myself playing this religiously like I do Forza. There just isn't as much depth nor do the handling physics keep me glued to the game.

Apparently only certain cars are "Works" convertible. There should be a highlighted W somewhere that lets you know.

It's definitely worth the 60 bucks to me - but I AM a 360 achievement point whore, so your mileage may vary.

When you buy the car, it will have a W for works, a curved arrow for drift - if it doesn't have those, you can only mode it to stage 3, and can't use it for drift.

Just spent several hours playing, and the works question brings up another gripe - why the HELL do you have to buy ALL the mods before making it a works vehicle? Stage 3 tires are street legal, works tires are pure race - so why do you have to have stage 3? It also makes you buy nitrous (if available), which it specifically tells you you can't have on the car if it's a Works upgrade. Stupid . . . of course, it's pretty generous with cash prizes, so you can make the money up pretty quick.

And whoever it is at EA that thinks the grid girls for drift look hot (or even human for that matter) needs to get up from their computer and go to a strip club or something. Those women are CREEPY. They all stand leaning backwards, and what is up with that hand-behind-the-head pseudo body building pose???

And yes, I feel better for having vented, thank you very much

For drifting, just go for it - best advice I have is to not touch the brakes at all, and learn to throw the car into a drift by hitting the gas, and calming things down with slow lifting of the throttle.

I wouldn't worry too much about it being clean, though - I run off the track and into obstacles constantly and still end up with 2x the points of the closest AI.

I've been using the fully modded 135, seems to do well . . . .

That was a weird challenge. If he's behind you he somehow manages to corner at least 10mph faster than you which doesn't make sense at all.

What you need to do is this: let him get ahead of you at the first stretch, but only by a little. Get right on the left side of his ass and keep pushing him until he swerves to the left. His left side should be facing you then you just push him over lol.

I use this technique with most duels lol.

That was easy for me the viper vs gt40 one was a lot harder.

Anyone have a steering wheel set up? I got mine working and it's crazy fun but drifting seems impossible on it. It's very unrealistic. Anyone got the hang of it yet?

I just went to my local Gamestop and got one for the PS3 (sold out on the 360). It is installing now and iam quite excited, actually.

But god, this will have to be good to make up for that $60 disappointment, undercover.

This game sucks so bad on the PC. I'm not talking about controls either. It's the framerate. Even some folks with quad core get 40FPS max on ATi 4870s. I think it was a port from console to PC. No optimizations at all!

NFS Most Wanted was great... but Undercover was a pile of shit (the controls were different, interface sucked, maps were awful, everything was bad.)

How's SHIFT compare to those two NFS games?

Really? I put mine all the way up and I rarely get slowdowns. I built my PC like 2 years ago too soo I'm happy with what they delivered since it still works great.

I did that one first time out without driving dirty . . . not sure what I may have done differently, but the GT can own the Viper easily . . .

spent the better part of my day playing NFS Shift. My first impressions is that the realism isn't there but it has plenty of fun factor. Who wants to play online?
