Cigarette outlet fuse location?

Been looking everywhere in the web and inky result I can find is an owner who got it fixed through the dealer.

All outlets are not working and I have no idea where the fuse boxes are located in this car.

Look in your manual. There are two fuseboxes, one in the trunk and one under the glovebox. There is a folded up 'map' in each fusebox showing symbols for and location of fuses. Look for the picture like this. The picture is there as an example. It may not be #42 on your car.

Are you having issues plugging in your radar detector? BMW light plug is non standard. It tapers which causes some plugs not to fully engage.

Ditto AlteBMW…the owners manual usually gives info as to the location of the car’s fuse locations. Go to the index in the back and look for fuse.

Also, there should be an owners manual built into iDrive. You can manually go to it or use the voice command button and say “OWNERS MANUAL”…and it should come up on the iDrive screen.

On my F chassis BMWs…both have a laminated fuse diagram/index sheet folded up and stored in a slot in the rear fuse box. See pics below for example…and if your 12 volt sockets have an icon printed on them…the same icon is usually used on the fuse index sheet.

Rear fuse box and fuse index sheet from my F06…yours should be similar…btw, ignore the icon circled in red…this image is from my pic stash and the icon was highlighted to show the icon used for th sunroof switch:

No, I'm just trying to plug in a phone charger cable for the passengers and was shocked to see the front and rear are both out

If you find that the fuses for your 12 volt sockets aren’t blown…then the issue will probably be as NVRfollo indicated. There are two different 12 volt socket sizes…and perhaps the one you’re trying to to use is not compatible with the sockets in your car.

If this is the case, you can google BMW 12 volt socket doesn’t work to see what owners have done in the past. This issue is common enough that a google search should bring up some past discussions on the topic.

A: 12-volt cigarette lighter receptacle and plug sizes
  • Receptacle inside diameter: 20.93–21.01 mm (median 20.97 mm)
  • Plug body diameter: 20.73–20.88 mm (median 20.805 mm)
  • Most often used in American automobiles

B: 12-volt cigarette lighter receptacle and plug sizes
  • Receptacle inside diameter: 21.41–21.51 mm (median 21.455 mm)
  • Plug body diameter: 21.13–21.33 mm (median 21.18 mm)
  • Most often used in European automobiles, and sometimes as a second socket in American automobiles expressly for DC power connections.

Wow!!, that’s expensive. I had one of those included from new by the dealer, so assumed it was standard.

My dealer also included one of those for at least one car I bought.

Do a google search or try amazon.com or eBay. I have a shorty adapter like in the pic above that I have in both my f06 & f15…but I don’t remember paying that much for them.

If you use that 11 digit BMW part number…it can help in finding the correct size and hopefully for a little less coin.
