We do know it wasn't the steering wheel controls as they changed it when he came in, sounds like an overloaded junction close to the PU.

I heard while I was watching the race that MAX tried to change his engine setting on his steering wheel .
Nothing changed by pushing several times on the button , and suddenly the setting jumped into Anti-Stall mode .
Whatever it is my friend . It's time that they fixed it once and for all ...And ASAP !

With very limited testing time those cramped components under the engine cover do suffer, if you've seen the configuration with the engine cover off the area is a jangle of mechanical and electronic spaghetti bolognese!

Or maybe the curbs dislodged something like other teams had issues with?

Good point, stewards were saying to stay off the new type intrusive kerbs and hearing Merc engineers reminding their drivers to stay off them.

Negative my friends .I don't think it has to do with the curbs . From what we saw , MAX had the Anti-Stall issue already from last year .
It's really sad to see how he lost today the necessary points for the championship .
I know it's not over yet . But every single point matters in the situation .

The latest according Horner :

Horner: Cause of Verstappen’s retirement has been “seen previously” by Honda
2020 F1 season Posted on

5th July 2020, 19:10

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says the technical problem which put Max Verstappen out of the Austrian Grand Prix has been seen by Honda before.

Max was running second behind eventual winner Valtteri Bottas when he retired early on with a suspected power unit failure. “It’s currently under investigation together with Honda,” said Horner. “So as soon as we have some conclusions we’ll let you know.

“It’s not something that we haven’t seen previously.”

Both Mercedes drivers had to manage problems with their cars later in the race. Horner believes Verstappen would have had a chance to win if he hadn’t retired.

“I think a win could have been on the cards today for Max,” he said. “He was holding pace with Valtteri.

“You could see towards the end of the stint Valtteri started to get into some tyre problems. We would have stopped under the pace car, taken the hard tyre that everybody did. And then on the second Safety Car, would Mercedes have stayed out? We would have done the opposite to whatever they did.

“So you just don’t know but I think strategically we were sharp, we were very strong today. It’s a shame we have no points to show for it.”

Verstappen’s team mate Alexander Albon also retired with a power unit-related problem. “Again, we need Honda to come back to us with the full details on that,” said Horner. “But a full investigation is going on.”

Not a clear explanation from Horner at this time and strange it afflicted both cars, he did say electronics at first but seems like he is stalling now saying PU.

Feel sorry for Seb as Lec finishing second with a detuned but reliable PU will be seen as king at Maranello for that second place.
The Mercs definitely had weak points that slowed them in the last knockings of the race with g/box and slowing Bottas with shot tyres..they were there for being overtaken but for the dirty tricks I've mentioned before.

FIA should give heavier penalty for this type of bloody mindedness.
Seems more like a racing incident, There will be many similar instances with no penalty as there have been in the past.

Negative mate . I like SEB , always did . But what Ferrari did to him , I feel sorry for him .
Probably that's why I like him even more .

According SEB :
Ferrari mechanics/engineers have chosen the wrong setup for my car today .
I told them : It looked completely wrong for my feeling in the car .
Probably they put the rear wing to low , to gain some top-speed !

I could see that during the race from today . SEB was struggling the whole race to find some traction and grip , even with lack of power on softs !
Actually it looked like sliding . It's a miracle he didn't crashed seriously...
I think Ferrari screwed him once again .They make him look like "The Clown" of the F1 circus .....

If I was SEB . I would crash that prancing horse "Intentionally"

The race started off pretty mundane but the last 30 min or so were very exciting! Very happy to see Charles end up on the podium, especially with what looked to be pretty bleak prospects for Ferrari. The mclaren team was very impressive, strong cars and drivers.

Tough break again for Albon. While perhaps he could have been more patient and attacked Lewis later on, I would have to put this one fully on Lewis. I mean Alex was a full car length ahead of him and right in Lewis' field of vision. Hamilton should have kept more to the inside track and surrendered the position which was already won by Alex.

Spot on, finally FIA should come down hard on drivers hitting others using dirty tricks to prevent passing. Hamilton's explanation of the contact afterwards was at best gibberish.

I guess all drivers should leave spaces and not defend. Oh, you wanna pass me, feel free, let me slow down and pull over so you can get ahead. That’s my strategy to win races and become world champ!
