Eurotunnel - Width
Hello all,
Finally purchased a G11 and I am going to take it to Europe end of next week. Does anyone have any experience with the Eurotunnel? I am slightly worried because the car is fairly wide it won't fit in so easily. Mine has the 20 inch wheels. Would be glad if you could please share what experiences you have made. Thanks |

I believe the carriages are all the same width, the only options are standard height (for cars) and high vehicles (4x4s with roof boxes, caravans, motorhomes, coaches etc)

I took my old 2016 730d with the 648M wheels on it in July 2018. It fits absolutely fine on the standard carriage. Just watch your mirrors and make sure your left side isn’t too close to the kerb because it’s quite close. The ramp up to the second floor is slightly tight if you’re directed there but it’s no more difficult than manoeuvring a car park.

I’d want to try and get it into the larger carriages as it’s just easier, it was a bit stressful when I had the 535d and the G11 is wider with lower profile tyres, although the surround cameras will help

I’ve never had Surround View on either of my cars but I’d say both the 5 and 7 were both equally annoying to get into the carriage. |

I was due to do the Eurotunnel this year but hols was postponed. I was the same, a little apprehensive. If you have the surround view/camera at the front with the green lines, it should be easy enough if you just take your time. Those green assist lines are so handy to save your rims when forward parking alongside kerbs.
I did lookup on youtube a large vehicle (either Q7/Q8 or large Merc) being filmed in front on a dash cam and it did look fairly tight. I think it might have been Carwow or someone else that said if you have a super wide car, you can always mount the very low kerbing on the side of the carriage and just to be careful if/when carriage narrows. |

I’d be weary of going on the kerb - when I was on it in 2018 the guy right behind me had a new Ford Edge and mounted the kerb accidentally, catching his tire on a lifted edge on one of the metal plates on the surface, destroying his tire in the process. I felt really bad for the guy, but I was also very relieved that he was right behind me and not the other way around - I’m sure he was fine though because there was a recovery car right outside as I drove out of the carriage.
