Bad Strut
My 760 has 5k miles on it. About 3 months ago I started hearing a knocking sound coming from the front when breaking and making a turn. Was finally able to drop it off for service yesterday and today was informed that it needs a new strut. Part has to be ordered from Germany and the dealer has no idea when it will be released and arrive here. I was told they’ll keep me informed but it could take a few weeks at least. They told me to keep the loaner while they’re waiting for the part to show up. Do you all think I should just pick up my car while waiting for the part to arrive or is it unsafe to drive the car with a bad strut? I haven’t noticed any other issues with the suspension besides the knock.

I'm not an expert but my inclination would be not to drive the car. I would think other things that depend on the strut could also break. If it breaks the strut tower btw your car could be a total loss as mine was (see earlier thread). Better to be safe with the loaner.

Looking for suggestions from the folks here. My car has been at the dealer since 7/12 waiting for a new strut to be shipped from Germany. To date, dealer is unable to provide an eta for the part. What are my options? Should I send a letter to BMW NA requesting they purchase the car back?

Quick update on my current situation…
My car has been in the shop since 7/12. As of last week, BMW NA could not provide a date for when the new strut can be shipped to the dealer for repairs. I was offered 2 options: 1. Take $X and wait indefinitely until the part arrives 2. Trade Assist I chose the trade assist option. Last Friday I was offered an option to order a new car and wait 3 months or find a car on a lot with similar options. Dealer would keep me in the same loaner (2022 740) if I decide to order. Fortunately for me, dealer was able to locate a car yesterday which was exactly like mine plus $8k in additional options. Instead of charging me extra for the diff in MSRP, BMW NA simply swapped my car for the new one w/out any additional fees. I’m a happy camper and back in the 760.
