One of the only BMW with a standard key?
Damn it.
I think I might have on order one of the only BMWs with a standard key! I have a G11 745e on order. No Display Key option No Digital Key option All bar The 7 listed for the Digital Key: https://www.bmw.com/en/innovation/bm...w-car-key.html And the Display Key doesn't seem to be available on the PHEV G11/G12: Has anyone workaround this? I don't really care about the Display Key, but the Digital Key would be pretty good. Thanks. |

Same problem. I was looking around and it seems like 7 series (along with X3/4, but I guess it's not true with new model that was just introduced) is the only one without digital key. I didn't find any details on why it's the case.

When my 7 lands I'll try and get the Digital Key working and report back.

Whilst the key is nice to look at ( I don’t have one) most people seem to prefer using the std key because of its size and responsiveness so I don’t think your missing out .

That's the display key. Digital key is an option to open car with smartphone. |

Digital key afaik is available only for X5. That is kind of strange. Not sure it requires hardware that isn't present in the 7.

It should be available on all models produced since mid 2020, except 7 series and X3/X4. Full list is available in the link provided in the first post. |

Thanks for the replies and engagement on one of my first posts.
Yeah, not bothered by the Display Key. Really, the My BMW app should do everything that key can do imho, so it's really just a gimmick. It's the Digital Key I'm after. Once m' 745e is here I'll see if I can get it working, but I'm not holding my breath. |

You can’t. You need the display key for remote parking.

Don't know.
But the my old (MY16) Jag XF had remote engine start, locking/unlocking, horn, car stats etc in the Jag app... and that was 5 years ago AND from Jag! If the/an app can talk to the car, as can the Display Key, then the features should be interchangeable. |

The Display Key will use Bluetooth or something else local with comparatively low latency, maybe a proprietary comms point-to-point infra wifi solution or something. The app goes via 4G/LTE/GSM etc and for a moving/parking car, those extra ms would be critical. But none of this explains why the Display Key isn't available with the PHEV G11/12. Once I get my 745e (which is on order), I'll give the Digital Key a go and see what happens. |
