It is something useful, assuming they made considerable improvements suggested by the larger size. HUD is something I personally thoroughly enjoy in a car.
The rest of the vehicle in the photos does not look attractive or inspiring. Must be me not liking the Mercedes designs of the last two decades.

Always loved the S class. I think we are two years away from a new 7?

The reason I didn’t go for an S Class was only because of the lack of technology. The 7 easily won.
However, based on the new S Class details, I’ll be first in line for a certified pre-owned S Class in a year or two (once the first guy takes the massive depreciation hit). I think its amazing and they have really focused on the tech this time (which always wins me over). Finger print start, augmented reality HUD... |

Maybe I am old school but I dont want everything on a screen, one of my biggest problem with Tesla.
I hate having to go into menus when I am driving for simple things. Yes I am good with touch screens and having the flexibility, but can my heated seats/steering wheel and climate knobs not be in a menu. Unless we can get voice to do it, I am all for for that.

Driven Tesla S for weeks, that's why of the multiple reasons I won't consider one any time soon. The buttons alone is a deal breaker alone, but it is a relatively minor point.

Towards the end of the video (at 2:58), MB showed the specs of the MBUX system, including storage bandwidth of 41,790 MB/s (!). I am not aware of any non-volatile memory of that kind of speed, even the fastest gen 4 M.2 SSD tops out at 5,000 MB/s. Is MB blowing hot air out of its fake tail pipes?

LEAKED: next generation Mercedes S-Class
It's not 41 thousand MB/s, it's just 41 MB/s...

Agreed! Have you guys seen the actual full leaked photos of interior? It's to another level! They did a phenomenal job! BMW interiors are way behind.

I think this will be a big headache for MB. Owners for S class are usually a little older and may have a little difficulty in learning a system without buttons. All this looks great but I was in a Tesla and hated that you need to go to multiple screens just to adjust temp. I personally prefer some buttons for Temp and Radio. That said S-class always is the leader in this category and until BMW doesn't something drastically different than the current they won't be even close.

So far, for me, it is meh, despite that I saw the new videos. For the exterior, when I saw the leaked pictures of the W223 S-Class, I got the same meh feeling I got some years ago from the G11/12 after pictures of that blueish 7 series were leaked. The interior looks better in the videos and the new pictures but the exterior is still very meh for me, be it the front or the rear which is even worst. Only sideways the car looks fine. I personally do not like all on touch screen, be it for the looks or for the functionality. Like someone said somewhere, too much screens, and I would add to that that the car dashboard with the wood trim and odd vents looks like the dashboard of an old luxury car (empty dashboard of an old Bentley or Rolls-Royce - with no dials, buttons and so on, and with the vents of an old Toyota Crown something like this) but with a futuristic screen in front, and this does not look exciting. I prefer some dials and buttons. One of the only positive so far is the tech but the realiability of those things in the long term might be a concern.

Someone from Mercedes already said it during a teaser or promo video that the trim with vertical lines was inspired the from deck of yatches.
See starting at 7:00. Last edited by Shantosh Seewooruttun; 08-19-2020 at 07:07 PM.. |
