Tyre pressure question

Am I right I’m thinking that the tyre pressure for the 20’’ staggered set-up is 32psi all round? Seems a bit low.

I don’t see 39 all round anywhere on the door sticker. What engine do you have? Is it long-wheelbase?

I have staggered 20” on my car, and have them set at 36psi all round for normal driving, and has worked perfectly well for me. If I have anyone in the back AND luggage I go up to 40psi at the rear.

Yours is a 740d X Drive, it might have different recommended settings from my 730d rwd. Do you know what the door sticker suggests for your car?

I don’t think it does, as the sticker covers all wheel and tyre sizes from 17” to 21”.

My sticker shows different values from yours - probably due to the extra weight and power of your car.

According to your sticker your tyres require 35 all round - an extra pound will make little difference. Mine require 32. I've put in 34 as I think a couple extra is beneficial from a handling point of view on country rounds.

In some markets...BMW has limited the amount of info on the door sticker...so its best to turn to your owners manual where it should list tire inflation levels for multiple models, number of passengers, is the tire size on the front or rear, & speed.

Just an FYI...that’s not what his chart says if he has staggered 20” (summer) tires mounted.

The front 20” tires would be a 245/40/20 tire with a Y speed rating...the chart says with up to 3 people the recommended PSI should be 35. If he is carrying up to 5 people...then the front tires should be inflated to 38 PSI.

The 20” rear tires in a staggered set up would be 275/35/20...the chart says that tire in the rear should be inflated to 35 PSI with up to 3 passengers...but should be inflated to 42 PSI if carrying 5 passengers.

Using the chart you have to determine:
  1. What size tire you have mounted?
  2. Is it on the front or rear?
  3. How many passengers you’re carrying?

This post is fantastic , I have been putting the incorrect pressures in my car since I got it. I didn’t read the chart properly , I had been running 32 F and 35 rear and recently switched to 35 F 38 R . But after reading this thread it should be F 35 and R 35 . It now seems logical and clear . Thank you .
