g12 paddle shifts

I recently bought a 740Li pure excellence design and it doesnt have paddle shifters, are they an option? and can they be fitted from the main dealer?

I would imagine that a dealer can fit them for you or a BMW specialist.

It will be worth asking a specialist first as they will probably know better what is involved. I'm surprised yours doesn't have the paddles though. I'm test driving and hopefully collecting a 740Ld Exclusive with the Pure Excellence Design next week and that has paddle shift.

Does yours have the sport auto transmission? Depending on year I know that was an optional extra on the one I'm looking at (Option code 2TB) so it may be that the paddle shift is tied to that.

But I would have thought retrofit was still possible with coding. A specialist would be able to confirm.

Anything is possible with enough money. But it could be prohibitively expensive, as many retrofits are. The paddles are switches in essence, that send a signal to upshift or downshift, so theoretically it ought to be possible -- assuming the parts are available (not sure it would involve steering wheel or steering wheel components).

I can't tell from the pics I have of the one I am going to look at. But if the paddles are part of the wheel it will almost certainly require a new steering wheel.

When I did it on a previous car it was a straight swap of the wheel and a bit of coding. The OEM wheel was £475 ($625) from eBay. The swap and coding I did myself which likely saved another £200 ($265) or so in labour charges.

Never owned a BMW before so not sure what their retrofits are like. If it's anything like VAG or Merc though. Then unless you can fit and code yourself it can be extortionate.

I'm not sure I might have to check from the vin but I thought it was dependant on if the vehicle was m-sport because all m-sport 740's here in the uk have it and non m-sports dont

Quite possibly why it’s listed as an option on the one I’m looking at. I think M-Sport is standard with Sport Transmission

If you have the wood inlay steering wheel, it doesn't come with paddle shifters. I've had two 7s with the wood inlay; neither had paddles.

With the Pure Excellence package, I wouldn't be surprised if that came with the wood inlay steering wheel.

Since that trim is luxury-focused, paddles are needed, the thinking goes.

I'm currently thinking about retrofitting a Sport steering wheel to my 2016 750i xdrive. Is there any coding/wiring work needed to install a sport steering wheel? Mine has the wood inlay therefore it didn't come with paddles, however, my VIN decoding lists the 'Sport Automatic Transmission' as an option.

Is that even needed? If vehicle already has 2TB or 2TE, then isn't the sport steering wheel w/ paddle shifters a plug and play?

Of course it would be great to add 255 to FA so it is updated with correct equipment, but I think it is only an information entry for assembly configuration.

The MFL buttons are different. This sometimes can bring LIN variant error which can be fixed by choosing correct value which include sport and non sport steering wheels.
