Garage List
Theatre's Screen

So I am 6"1 and the driver seat sits back some. Every time we try to put down the theatre's screen it gives the error screen is blocked. To get the screen to come down my seat has to be pulled so far up it's very uncomfortable to drive.

I don't see any way around this and certainly makes a case to have the old screens just on the back of the seats. Thoughts....

You’re right. Not for tall people. I put my front seats setting on 1 for regular driving and 2 for theatre where they are adjusted to the very maximum allowable clearance for the screen to come down. Play with it. You might squeak out a couple of inches if you test it’s max.

One of the reasons I didn't get the screen (Okay, primary reason is in Germany the screen is bound to the executive lounge feature costing 11.000 EUR which I don't need as I only drive alone or with my wife), I am 6"6 and it was just impossible to operate the screen when driving, but even my 5"6 wife had to change her seat position because she likes to have the seat leaning backwards a bit.

If you want to use the screen while driving, for the kids or whatever, I don't see any other option than programming a seat setting to your "2" which allows the screen to slide down but still allows some driving comfort for the 30 seconds and get back to your usual seat position "1" afterwards.

For me the screen is the most immature feature of the car, plus it blocks the view and the beautiful sky lounge. Pass for me

I am almost 6'3" and keep my seat pretty far back. I had the same thoughts about where to put the seat as everyone, but then I played with keeping my seat where it is, and just adjusting the seat back until the warming went away.

I must admit, it is not the perfect solution, but certainly comfortable enough to be able to see the smile on my 4 year old granddaughter when we drive around and she watches TV.

I'm short (5'6") and sit pretty far back from the wheel/pedals. This has been a non-issue for me. I guess my seating position is just far enough. I just went and tested by moving the seat back 1 in from my stored position and I wasn't able to get the screen to fold any longer.

Once the screen comes down you can move the screen toward the rear seats and regain some rear movement at the front seats. You don’t have to stay at the point at which the screen folds down.

Hmmm...not from what I have tested. They seem to be the exact same point.

Maybe you are just moving it too far forward.

I set my seat back to normal position, that is saved as 1. Then I just move the seat back forward until the screen can come down, and set it at 2. Once the screen is down, I can't move the seat or the seat back further back.

You can of course move the seat further back if you tilt the seat back forward, but there seems to be only one point where the seat back is maxed out and the screen will come down.

You can’t move it literally all the way back again but you can get another inch if you move the screen to the rear more. It’s not much.

That is correct, but you cannot put the screen back up until you move the seat forward that one inch, so in fact, in order for the screen to go up and down, there really is only one point for the rear most position of the seat back.

Hope this clarifies. Sorry to be so detailed, but I tested this for a long time in order to set the seats at this point and save that setting so I didn't have to keep adjusting every time we use the screen.

Sort of related
Was looking at an old e60 brochure the other day and lo and behold the idea of a fold down screen from the roof isn’t new, it was an option on that car
Obviously a lot smaller and for dvds. Tech of the day but forgot that this concept had been around for so long in BMWs!

When did the e60 ever have a flip down DVD player? I thought the first one with RSE was the 2007 X5 which flipped up from the back of the center console.
