I know several guys and two of them are here. Hopefully they chime in. I've been contemplating it. On my previous BMWs I had downpipes and tunes. First time in the 7 I'm kinda hesitant.

Thinking of going downpipes and tune?

You and I both lol

I would like to get downpipes and a tune.. I saw VRSF and ARM offer them but I just want a bit more insight. As far as tune goes, I’ll be going with BM3. Had them in the past and it’s pretty straight forward honestly.

For me, I've always gone downpipes on every other BMW I've owned, however, two known tuners recommended against it since my concerns were long term reliability and stage 2 from my understanding maxes out the turbos and puts a good amount of load on the motor. With that said, I'm still very tempted .. haha. Love the sound of downpipes. The extra power isn't really that much of a difference though from stage 1 to 2. Negligible.

I know a few guys running downpipes and stage 2 tune without any issues but they haven't had the car long enough to tell plus they don't really push the car hard. Not like we race these things like I did on my F10 M5 LOL.

I imagine if you're not pushing the car and doing back to back high speed runs and keeping up with maintenance, should be fine I'd imagine.

Project Gamma is a reputable manufacturer and has some downpipes for our cars. Little bit more expensive but it's a quality product.

I agree. It’s more for the sound aspect of it honestly. I’m not going to be driving my 7 like a M car. I just want the sound of the turbo spool there

Do you happen to know which downpipes their running?

I would love to hear a sound clip with the downpipes. I have a resonator delete and x-pipe install and the car sounds basically stock.

I might get a pair of downpipes soon so I’ll keep this updated.

Ive got a BM3 license and tune ready to go but i was advised by a freind thats a service manager at BMW (that also has a slew of modified cars) that even if you put the stock tune back on the DME, they can still see its been modified at one point and void the warranty. They even told him theyd void the warranty on his personal M3, and he works there.

There is a method to do it without them telling. Just do full backup in bench.

Too low a level of detail for me, however I understand that Bosch ECU’s had a counter that increments with each write operation, which is one of the ways they can tell. I was told that the switched on tuners actually read the value of this counter and subtract 1 before writing back, such that it looks normal and then requires a much more detailed investigation to see if it has been changed. I did this on a 2009 A8 using Viezu and dealer was none the wiser. I am going back to around 2011, so may also no longer be true, as they may have closed that loophole.

I was told that's the same method used on my 16 G12 750. I haven't had any warranty issues nor have they detected a tune on mine. I can't speak for newer models.

You can clone/backup your original DME and maybe swap in the cloned unit for service, if needed.

I there was any chance of voiding your warranty, I wouldn't be excited. These cars are way too expensive to repair on your own $$. For a car already out of warranty, have fun.
Or isn't Dinan "approved"?

I totally agree with you and im probably going to wait for atleast a little bit to make sure the car is solid, but the people telling me its possible would be the ones that know.
