Heated Seats So Very Hot All of a Sudden

As many of you know, my car is constantly in service.

Unfortunately, I lost some coding during my last visit, as the dealer apparently updated software for some modules.

Strangely, since then, my heated seats on the third level get extremely hot, in particular, the seat back... so much so that simply touching it with your hand feels like it burns, causing you to quickly pull your hand away.

When connecting with Rich (who's amazing, as those who know, know) to get coding back, he saw that the seat bottoms and backs are set to different temperatures on the third setting and that the seat back is programed for 119 degrees Fahrenheit.

Some questions:

1. Has anyone noticed a change in their heated seats temperatures over the years, after a service visit in particular?

2. Does anyone know what temperature your heated seats – the seat backs in particular – are running at?

I like hot heated seats and always thought our cars had great heated seats, but mine have become unbearable.

Problem being... Rich can code to car for whatever [lower] temperature I desire, but I’m not certain what the ‘right’ number is; whatever I may or may not have had before. So I'd like to know what everyone else may be running at.

Also…

3. As the heating elements age, is there any way that they may go bad and heat up even MORE than they should?

Thanks and happy and safe motoring out there if anyone’s in the Northeast storm area!

See my reply on the f10 5 series forum...it looks like you can adjust between 5-6 degrees...and it looks like you're at the highest setting for the front seat backs: https://f10.5post.com/forums/showpos...27&postcount=2

Many, many thanks, QSilver7; so helpful!

Also... wonderful insight such that using the higher level doesn't warm the seat any faster!

I truly appreciate it.

QSilver7 or anyone else:

Can you please find out what the original / default heated seat values are that BMW uses, for the seatbacks and bottom?

And if those values may have changed over the years with newer module software versions?

This is driving me crazy getting the right / desired settings back!

Thank you.

I changed my settings with the Bimmercode app so I don’t remember what each one was exactly...but I seem to remember them all being close to the middle of each range.

But regardless of coding parameters for the range of selected front seat heating...you have the ability in iDrive to adjust the front seat’s heat temp, too. Go to SETTINGS in iDrive, then scroll down to CLIMATE...you should see a selection for seat heating adjustment for the driver’s side and passenger’s side. I have this ability in both my 2013 f06 650ix GC (has CIC) and 2014 f15 X5 (has NBT).

EDIT: went out to the garage to snap a few pics to show where to go in iDrive to adjust the front seat heating. I will post pics from both vehicles since one is CIC (pics1, 2, & 3) and the other is NBT (pics 4, 5, & 6)...the wording is slightly different but the procedure is the same...and I’m sure this would be similar for the NBT ID4/ID5/ID6 iterations as well.

Many thanks all your support of this wonderful community, QSilver7.

I think those settings only refer to heat distribution - not to raise from the settings the car is coded to.

Meaning, if someone wants to use heated seats, but doesn't want both the back and bottom to heat, they can reduce one or the other.
