I am mostly not in favor of forced induction.

Edit: absolutely no electric motors. If the UN and the IPCC want political racing, let them start their own series. they could call it....oh, i dunno, "Formula E" or something.
2 Liters, WITH KERS, Turbos banned. 550KG weight limit. 80% of aero from standard floor.

Oh. Bring back qualifying engines. The only mode they have is Party Mode.

Eliminate weight and power limits. Remove any requirements for forced induction or not.

Any engine of any size with any amount of HP, but the HP to Weight ratio is controlled.

Now - you can have a 1000KG bohemouth with a 4L 1500hp N/A V8 racing along side a 500KG lightweight car with a 1.5L turbo 6cyl putting out 750hp.

You're now describing the old Group X nomenclature from the 70's but with open wheel cars. Weights, displacements, loopholes and general insanity. It was great racing but I don't think they'll ever turn the clock back in that fashion.
Those were the crazy days of international racing.

I like my pseudo formula because it leaves the tweaking to the team, limits costs, limits complexity on the drivetrain side, and would be reasonably safe.

I almost forgot...bring back the Tire Wars!!!

Yep - exactly!

I know it would never be reality - but I loved the insanity of it.

Personally, I don't really care about reigning in costs for F1, as it is supposed to be the pinnacle. I know the ramifications of this, but again, I really am an anti-rule guy.

Tire wars for the win - spec tires are terrible. I would love to see various cars fielding different tire brands.

I’m on the fence. I do kind of like the idea that if you have the fastest lap of the race, even if you come in last, you get a point. I think they could also come up with a few other point worthy earnings, like a point for leading the most laps even if you come in last. But the largely points by finishing position should stand. I think those extra single points could help reduce the advantage having pole position gives.

The fastest lap award is only for points finishers though. Otherwise it would have no effect.

Will anyone outside of Mercedes/Ferrari/Red Bull be capable of putting down the fastest lap anyway?

Right now yes, but leading most laps might be interesting. Think of those times where Hamilton had to start from the back of the grid. He may have ultimately won it probably didn’t lead most laps.

This is the first points shake up since we went to the 25 point system.
I think I'm with Run Silent on this one, the race is the race.....and he'd know now that he's inside the tent with team Ferrari.

With a tight championship, it'll be incentive to keep going fast to the last lap.

But it'll be balanced with saving the engine (both short and long term).

Not sure about the rules, but if a car is set to finish below 10th, and still posts the fastest lap, will it deny the top 10 from scoring the extra point? maybe if you're (e.g.) Bottas and you're in 15th and VET is in the top 10, you can still go for the fastest lap to deny him the point.

with cars going fast at the end, and some slowing down, there's also more potential for a crash.

I think anything to keep the cars going fast all race will be good.

I didn't think about that. Another way for Bottas to help Ham haha.

So the rule is official.....1 championship point to fastest time set in the top 10.

Looking at last year, every race except for 1 (Singapore) had a fast lap set by Ferrari, Mercedes, or Red Bull. Haas was the only exception when Magnussen set the fastest lap in Singapore. To me, this only highlights that the top 3 teams will distance themselves that much more in terms of points than the rest of the field.

Interestingly, in 2018 Bottas had the highest number of fastest laps at 7, Ricciardo at 4, Vettel at 3, Hamilton at 3, Verstappen at 2, Raikkonen at 1, Mangussen at 1.

I don't think it will be worth pitting to put on fresh tires to set a fast lap unless you have a huge delta to the driver behind you so that you don't lose a position. What I think will happen is that drivers who are caught in no man's land with a big enough gap in front and behind them will conserve their car until the last few laps and then try and set the fastest lap for the extra point. Driver's who are engaged in trying to overtake or catch some one won't be worried about the extra point, they want the extra position which is more valuable than just the single point.

The front wing is actually most of the problem. It is designed to create a huge outwash to minimize the disruption of the dirty air from the front tires (huge source of drag). That's most of the dirty air that makes it back to the trailing car.

That's why this years rules made the front wing smaller and the rear wing higher.

I'm for it. It's a race. Surely the one who goes round the circuit the quickest getting some sort of award is not silly. I think a point is fair.
