The note I got said it was a free update but was not OTA and required a dealer visit. My car is a '23, 12/22 build.

My Dealership attempted to charge me for this upgrade on my 23 740i, they claimed that they submitted as a warranty and they pushed it back to them so they was going to have to charge me. After a bit of gripe from me, the Service Manager said they’d wave the $300+ for labor because I was a loyal customer. After I snapshotted the alert that I got from BMW saying it was a “NO COST” upgrade, he then said he was going to forward the info to whomever to get reimbursed.!!
Does this sound suspicious to you all? |

Not suspicious. Deceptive and exploitative.
It seems pretty clear. They’re trying to fleece you out of $300. How can a service manager or personnel not be up to speed to know that it’s free. They should be the “experts“ |

Your answer is YES -- in fact, unequivocally, yes. They shouldn't have brought up "warranty," who or what "pushed back," and made you feel they were the victims having to "forward the info to whomever [for reimbursement]." Boo-hoo, poor THEM! That should've been all their internal business and they shouldn't have troubled you about it whatsoever. Once you communicated and/or provided proof it was a no-charge modification, a dealership with integrity would've simply said, "No problem Sir, you can pick it up on Thursday." Of course, we've gathered you really know all this already. Trying to squeeze extra dollars from you was completely wrong and unethical. We should make a list of national BMW dealers with two columns. Put them under the SECOND column: "Suspicious or Unscrupulous Dealers to Avoid." Uh, other than that, I have no particular opinion about the matter. But seriously, all will be well and enjoy your car and Active Lane Change! |

Good dealers look at customers more as business partners than adversaries. Bad dealers are always looking to take what they can get. Good you called their bluff.

I’ll send BMW a nice email and get to the bottom of this ASAP. I declined the payment they were asking for.

If they look up your VIN on SGATE vehicle history it will show in the vehicle comments “this vehicle is eligible for a one time Active Lane Change retrofit per SIB 65 01 24”. SIB may be wrong as it’s off the top of my head but the point still stands. I’ve done several of these already.

At the time of the original post no but, my vehicle is currently at the dealership now for replacement of the Sunroof blind motor and some soft close door issues. The Advisor did tell me that there was an update they were going to perform, so I assume that will be the 03/2024. |

In the BMW app, click on the car and scroll down. There is a software Heading and you can click on “remote software upgrade”.
That will tell you your current software version and if there’s a new version available. |
