No amount of technical brilliance can detract from that hideous front grille. It's disgusting, disproportionate and repulsive enough not to ever look again at that car.
I'm a lifelong supporter of Bmw. They make the best cars in the world, I've never even owned anything else. However, I can't understand why no one in Munich saw just how ridiculous this is ? I can't decide whether the front looks like a fish with its mouth stuck open, or a BBQ rack from Costco ? Hideous Bmw, totally.

Love the changes. Personally, I found that you had to get M Sport for almost all BMW's to make it look good. The new 7er looks good in both M Sport (from the leaks) and non-M Sport. Can't wait to see this in person.
As for the grilles, will definitely look a lot better in person and I think gives the 7er more presence. Yes they are big but when you see it pull up, you know it's a 7er and not just another BMW. But again, I'm in the group that thinks the grilles on the X3 and X5 are fine. |

After seeing the X7 and X5 at the LA Auto Show, the large kidney grills work and look great in person, I'm sure they work on the new 7er. I think it looks a lot more elegant and imposing with this new front end. The whole car looks very aggressive and masculine. The car seems a lot more squared off for some reason. Nicest refresh I have seen in years on any BMW.

Having worked at the Manufacturing plant working on the G07 project, it was interesting to see how the large kidneys that everyone complained about on it actually worked with the car, and I actually was a fan after seeing in person. I think these kidneys are definitely too large, but can't judge too hard until seen in person. Other than that, it looks amazing and a big fan of this update, just have to see how the kidneys play out in person.

@SDRX suggested "No amount of technical brilliance can detract from that hideous front grille".
My initial impression is the same. Did the designers want to increase air flow through the engine bay? May be. Or did the lead designer experience a newly gained respect for our planet and wanted to pay homage to the mystery of whale shark after watching BBC's Blue Planet? Also possible. In short, it's a mystery. |

We will not "learn to love it". Meh. I do think like the pre-LCI current 7. There is nothing I dont like about it enough to keep me away from it. Long live the e38. |

That grill is way too big. In the front and center pictures it looks hideous.

I think it's time to stop calling them "kidney grilles" and rename them "lung grilles". Better describes their function and relative size.

Holding all thoughts until I see it in person. The X7 wasn't attractive to me in photos, found it beautiful in person. Pictures don't do perspective justice.

With all the LCI changes, should be called the "all-new BMW 7 series". Don't recall these many changes for a LCI in the past, with a new dashboard (professional), major iDrive update from 6 to 7, and a new bonnet.
Assume that the updated V8 will make its way over to the G05 M50i for MY 2020? Is the V8 the same N63 in the M850i?

Not really. There are and have been many cars with rear light bar.

I agree that's funny, but what's ironic to me, is that the design is actually going to go in the other direction. Once everything is full electric, there is no functional need for a grille to bring in air for cooling purposes. As a result, we are going to end up going from huge grilles to potentially no grilles. THAT change is going to be more visually jarring to consumers than the current shift.
