2021 CPO 750 xDrive for Road Warrior Duty
Hello! I just recently joined the 7-series club, with the purchase of a very lightly used 2021 750i xDrive. It started out as BMW corporate car for about 6,000 miles, before being released into the wild as a CPO vehicle.
I was really looking for a loaded post-LCI M550, but couldn't find exactly what I wanted, new or CPO. That's when I spotted this particular car, and decided to take a closer look. I spend a ton of time in my car, racking up highway miles by the bunches...somewhere between 3,000-4,000 miles most months. I think the 750 is going to be a great car for the job, I love the blend of comfort and power! With that said, what kind of experience am I in for with this car? Are they fairly reliable, what are the typical problem areas I should be watching out for? If anybody else here uses one of these cars for road-warrior duty I'd especially love to hear your experience! The scheduled maintenance doesn't sound too intense, although I'm struggling to wrap my head around the extremely frequent brake fluid flushes. Is the pre-paid maintenance plan worth it? |

750 is a very nice car. I would have recommended the 740 for a road warrior. Much more dependable and better gas mileage.

I track my mileage closely out of habit, and while I've only filled up once so far, I'm at 24.1MPG. Which is pretty much in line with the vehicle the 750 is replacing for me (2021 Genesis G80 3.5T Prestige). I can live with that. A big plus for me with the CPO cars is the unlimited miles warranty, which I extended with the "platinum wrap." I wouldn't normally buy an extended warranty, but I acknowledge this is an extremely complicated car. And as I understand it, the platinum wrap coverage adds back in some items excluded from the regular CPO warranty. |

This is my 6th 7 series. My first 6 cyl…..although I’ve had the same engine in X5 and 3 series. All my other 7’s were v8’s and had issues with oil burning and injectors…other than the B7. Love the power of the V8 but not reliable in my opinion. |

Enjoy the ride. I considered 750iX but opted for the 740iX due to V6 is well documented to be more reliable and much better gas mileage (I think 750 is around 14-15mpg?). The power of the 750 is an absolute beast and I really enjoyed test driving one...don't worry about the maintenance costs (normal wear and tear) enjoy your ride!

Wow, that's a wealth of BMW experience! This is my first foray into depending on BMW as my daily driver. I've always had Lexus or Audi, and most recently a very short lived experience with Genesis that went horribly sideways. Loving this 7 series so far, and hoping for the best

If you're cruising mostly at highway speeds you'll likely have few issues. Drive it hard once in awhile to keep the carbon deposits down, and you should be just fine. I would also recommend a shorter oil service (even if you have free changes from dealer). 4-5k between would be optimal using a quality synthetic oil like Amsoil or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. With the hot V of the N63, engines Temps are high and you'll have much better protection with a shorter oil service.
The N63TU is a great motor and can handle quite a lot of abuse. It's essentially the same motor as the M5/M8/X5M (S63) without all the M cooling and turbos, etc. |

A month in, and so far so good. What a great driving, comfortable car! I'm crushing the EPA estimates, averaging 25.4mpg thus far. I certainly didn't select this car for its economy, but still a nice surprise.
One weird thing I'm noticing is with the maintenance reminder system. It keeps hovering at 9,000 miles until my next "scheduled" oil change. It's said 9,000 since I got it, and I've gone about 2,000 miles. I will be changing it early anyway, but I'm wondering if I should be concerned that something isn't functioning properly. Or do you think the miles I'm driving are that unusually "easy" and the computer is taking that into consideration? |

May I enquire how frequent the brake fluid changes are? These should be on 2 year interval as that is the service life of the fluid.

You know what, I think you are right. I had been cross shopping a Mercedes, and the brake fluid on them is supposed to be flushed every 20,000mi. I must have been thinking of that, because the maintenance book for the 750 says when the condition based monitoring recommends it. Probably time-based as you say.

If system is properly sealed and within design operating conditions, then in reality you will hardly feel any difference between fresh and five year old fluid in average driving conditions. The differences might become more pronounced once the child steps on the road behind a parked car and you have to do emergency maneuver with hard braking while hoping for the best. Do you want to find yourself in that situation hoping for best or going into this situation prepared? Brakes are the most important component of your car. Treat them good and they will treat you good. |
