And would love to see the new tech trickle down to the 3-series.
I do not think your statement is actually accurate. MBZ sales a boatload more s-class than BMW sales 7er because it is perceived as a more prestigous and luxorious brand. BMW is for the majority about driving dynamics. MBZ is about prestige and Audi design. With that said, it still needs to be good looking no matter how it drives and that is one ugly duckiling ... From my point of view a very worrisome trend as the latest cars are getting uglier (New X6 vs old, X4 is bad, 5 series is boring and so on). Of the German premium brands BMW makes by far the ugliest cars. Problem is dynamically not as far ahead as they used to from the competition (case in point M3 vs C63).

Someone should photoshop out those LED fogs (yuck) and connect the break on the upper portion of the center intake on the m sport bumper.

I think that would be a lot better

I see a lot of complaints..this is a 7 series like always (except bangle era e65)
its a neo e32 in my opinion minimalistic exterior and interiorwise..like always an athlete in a suit..

BMW could make it prittier..like the vision luxury or grand lusso..but they wanted a 7 series..so here it is..
If they built something far superior than S-class or audi a8..who would buy the Royce.

Very nice to see real images of the new 7-Series.

In my opinion, there are some very nice small details that BMW really got right.
-Chrome lower side-mirror into window trim detail
-Chrome rear bumper trim into rear reflectors
-Love the 20" wheel choices
-Wood trim by rear seat belt outlet
-Ambient lighting [color modes, outside path illumination, panoramic roof](save B-Pillar lights which look very tacky to me)
-Steering wheel

I also think they did a great job with color selections both in and out, though it would have been nice to see a darker grey leather choice. Also will add the Individual colors look nice as well. Personally I like the extra chrome in the active kidney grille slats- I think it will look quite imposing from a rearview mirror. I am also in the crew of those who like the silver interior buttons, so long as they feel more like metal (like the A8) as opposed to painted plastic (lower end MB models).

Some things I think they didn't get right:
-I find it a little weird the 740 comes standard with Dakota leather...which is, a bit, "tough" for this class of vehicles.
-Key is cool, but my lord is it huge...
-Are 17" wheels really still relevant in this class?
-I also think the lower front and lower rear bumpers look like they make almost a "duck face" look

I have to say, the fact that they made such a big deal out of the gesture control, you think there would be more gestures...at launch there is answer/decline phone, raise/lower volume, and one custom. Also, I think the M-Sport trim looks better with chrome accents as opposed to shadowline.

Overall, job well done. Still don't think its super revolutionary, and still looks kind of bland, but much much better than the outgoing model, especially on the interior and technology front.

For those who have checked, if you go to bmws.com/7series there is a color configure tool to see all the interior/exterior colors, leathers, trims, and wheels. Also shows the M-Sport, Individual, and Pure Excellence lines.

Get used to the Hockey stick as BMW have addressed criticism that current air breathers look stuck on so now combine the breather with additional trim so it looks less stick on than before. You will see this on many forthcoming BMWs.
Such as this render of the next generation 4er.
OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ABOUT THAT HOCKEY STICK.

BMW design has gone straight into the damn toilet. How on earth can anyone defend this garbage?!?

Looks ok and the tech sounds cool. Honestly I want the tech to move down a few series sooner than later than car itself. Moar carbon fiber on next M3

This!
Euro safety standards now dictate that side indicators must be visible above a certain height, hence the mirror mounted turn signals.

Not sure why everyone is hating on the new 7. I think it looks fantastic, especially with the m-sport package. Looks like a proper large sport sedan now. The interior is gorgeous, ambiance lighting is elegant, overall lines and layout inside are great, especially the rear seats patterns.

You get to look at a sporty car from the outside, drive it like a sporty car (4.3 0-60 is no joke on a car this large, mind you this is probably conservative), while also enjoying the most modern of luxurious inside with some features that aren't available elsewhere.

What's wrong with it? Is it because it starts at 97k? Lol

Everyone asked for a lighter car..they did it.

Everyone asked for new tech that is above what competitors have..they did it.

Asked for improved design..they did it.

Asked for more luxurious rear seats...they did it.

What more is there?

comparing this with S class? i think Mercedes is heading toward the right direction.

i can't speak for technology wise....sometimes little is better than too much of it.
little? are you dumb you just sound jealous The new 7 is on another level. S class needs to play catch up. I'm not even joking, I already know S class owners that will be trading their S classes for an M sport 7 100% as they have said.

Bravo BMW.

S Class, smess Class. I'll take this 7 over any S class or Panamera. This looks like a BMW, drives like a BMW, and the interior is awesome!

7 series weight.

Folks, don't forget that the US specs 7 series is the LWB version (or Li in Europe), with a wheelbase of 326.4 inches or 3210mm. The US is not getting the SWB version.

So weight are the following from the worldwide PR:

Weight Measurement standards:
Leergewicht EU ( Car with 90% fuel, driver @ 68kg, 7kg luggage )

740i: Weight, unladen. to EU kg 1800 (3968 lbs)
740Li (US version): Weight, unladen. to EU kg 1845 (4068 lbs)

750i xDrive: Weight, unladen. to EU kg 1945 (4288 lbs)
750Li xDrive (US version): Weight, unladen. to EU kg 1990 (4387 lbs)

730d xDrive: Weight, unladen. to EU kg 1900 (4189 lbs)
730Ld xDrive: Weight, unladen. to EU kg 1945 (4288 lbs)

For comparison purpose (I've only put models that are directly comparable such as AWD to AWD versions, engine displacement etc):

Mercedes S Class (EU, in Kg):
S500 4matic (equivalent to 750i Xdrive): 2050 (4519 lbs), LWB: 2070 (4564 lbs). 7 series is lighter by 105kg or 231 lbs in the SWB, or in the LWB (US model): 80kg or 176 lbs.

S350 BlueTec4Matic (equivalent to 730d Xdrive): 2025 (4464 lbs), LWB: 2045 (4508 lbs). 7 series is lighter by 125kg or 276 lbs in the SWB, or in the LWB (US model): 100kg or 220 lbs.

There is no mercedes S class equivalent to the 740Li

Audi a8 (EU, in Kg)
A8L 4.2 FSI quattro (equivalent to 750Li xDrive): 1955 or 4310 lbs. BMW is lighter by 10 kgs (or 22 pounds).
A8L 3.0 TDI quattro (equivalent to 730Ld xDrive): 1965 or 4332 lbs. BMW is lighter by 20 kgs or 44 pounds.

Jaguar XJ (EU, in Kg)
3.0 V6 Compressor (Equivalent to 740i and Li): SWB 1748 (3854 lbs), LWB: 1761 (3882 lbs). BMW is lighter by 23kgs (or 51 lbs) and heavier by 9kg (or 20 lbs)
