I agree with getting rid of run flats. I hate them. I think the experience is far more premium when you get regular tires on. That being said, no I would not recommend cheap tires. Not on a 7 and not on a Honda Civic. If you don't want to pay the Michelin premium go with Continental DWS or Pirelli. They're both less money, good quality, and good ride.
Cheap tires aren't worth it in the long run. They're hard which means they ride lousy, are noisy, and don't fare well in colder weather. They are usually not well balanced which leads to making them more difficult to mount and balance. And you bought a 7 series. You bought one of the most premium sedans on the market and want to cheap out on the tires. It doesn't make sense to me but to each his own. |

Just picked up a new 740d with 21" Pirelli PZ4s. They are RF and have the obligatory BMW * marking on the sidewall. Would not put a non-* tire on my BMW
Generally, I would follow the rule to always use OEM recommended tires in case of all car brands who get tires adapted to their requirements (MB, Audi, Volvo, other premium or sport car brands). I follow the reasoning that if the people who designed cars we like out the extra effort to have tires adapted or designed to fit the car's character, why would I try to outsmart them and potentially harm the driving experience in the process? If you don't like the tires you currently have, research other options with a BMW *. The Pirellis - in my experience at least - work great and I have no reasons to complain. As some said above, go with a smaller rim if you dislike the experience you get with 20"s

Hell no! Never cheap Tires on a car as Quick and Expensive as a 7 Series or really anything. I’d rather save my life or someone else’s life then to save a few bucks on Tires.

Meanwhile, if I would do some burn outs on a weekend to show off to my bonehead friends, sure Walmart tires should be enough for that. Then replace them with 'decent' tires afterwards.

I have just replaced the original Bridgestone tyres (based on age rather than wear as still had 3.5mm+ left) with Pirelli P Zero PZ4 and have to say that they have transformed the car. They are much quieter and much more comfortable.
I took the opportunity to fully clean the wheels and wax them, and with tyre dressing the whole set up looks better than new! Runflat options at dealer were Bridgestone 73dB Pirelli 69dB or Goodyear 73dB and non-runflat were just Pirelli 73dB and they told me that the one customer who had gone that route with an inflation kit regretted it. I stick with main dealer because of my corporate relationship and good discounts, so get treated well without any retail BS! Did the 4 wheel laser tracking and a brake fluid change at the same time, so all set.

Never had Bridgestones on any cars and never will...I am now on some Goodyear Excellence until I get PZ4. I will stick with RFs.

I recently replaced PS AS4 with Bridgestone S007 RFT. Man this tire completely changed my opinion on RFTs! Softer, quieter and grips the road waaay better than OEM pirellis and PS AS4 - granted, AS4 is an all-season compound. But dare I say S007 handles better than the PS4S - on dry road at least. I wonder why not a lot of ppl are talking about this tire. It's probably the price, but I got it on sale at TR for under $200 each. But knowing how these tires perform, I wouldn't mind paying the MSRP.
