turbo lag
Hello all.
I am curious about trying to reduce the lag in my turbo charger or increase boost slightly. I have a 2014 750i twin turbo . Any suggestions? |

Too many to list, and this is why folks don't buy these cars used, its a big big project to get a healthy running 750 N63 4.4L motor.. This was my motor, after owning it and its getting all this removed and new seals, too much to list. Chances are your car is equal or worse in wear and build up, along with tired old turbos that will need to be replaced or rebuilt too. |

You don't say how you know you have turbo lag. If you punch these cars in Comfort mode while cruising at say 35-40 mph when the car has settled into 6th gear, it feels like you could read an entire novel while waiting to feel some acceleration. But if you have it in Sport mode, or manually downshift before punching it, it's a totally different experience. So don't confuse turbo lag with how the transmission and engine electronics work.

It's in sport plus.
Even still you can tell when the turbo starts to spool up. Don't get me wrong,it's not awfully. I just want it to spool up faster. Quicker off the line. |

This car only has 80,000 miles on it.
I just want to leave the line quicker. Not that I race it. I'm thinking now that I should just enjoy the car and a 540i to my garage. |

It's not turbo lag, it's a torque limiter to protect the transmission from the gobs of torque an N63 produces. Code 2TB into the VO, remove 205,and recode surrounding modules. It's the "Sport Automatic Transmission" coding. Currently your car has 205, which is geared (patterned) more towards luxury.
I've done it in my 7er and it has made a whole world of difference. The difference is even better on the 8 speed in your car. You can find more information on the F10 5er forums, much more common on those cars. On the 7er it's direct code in, you do not need to replace the shifter mechanism to a SAT style. You also do not need to have or add in paddle shifters, although I did and it's quite cool.

Ok,my apologies,I'm not that adept in the high tech lingo.
Lol (not meaning to insult you)All I read and heard is Momma dog face banana patch. Which simply means I only understood it when you said Gobbs of power. I'm a old school mechanic and just now getting to understand turbo chargers and computer tuning. I have totally rebuilt the engine in my 2003 e39 msport. Man that was fairly simple. But my 750 is new territory. Thank you very much for the Info you gave me and now I'm heading for my automotive dictionary. Lol Have a great day!! |

Can you tell me what I need for software and hardware in order to tune my 750?
I need a little more education on the subject b4 I attempt it,but I want to start gathering the tools. 1 more question please, Is it possible to just tune the computer so it only effects sport or sport plus and not comfort settings? |

I'd suggest trying the Burger Tune plug-n-play...and I'm not just saying that because I happen to have one for sale. LOL. I had similar concerns with lag on my 2015 750i and it worked great, I was very happy with it. Some much so, I bought an updated version for my 2017. Unlike installing the one for the 2017, the 2015 install was supper easy and instant power right where I liked it...not too much to get me into too much trouble.

Ya I'd just like to get the car to do 12 sec qrtr mile.as specified by factory specs.
I'm not sure what the qrtr mile times are st the moment ,I'm just holding reservations that it will actually do it. |

It's my understanding that you could just reprogram the engine control module.?

Yes, it stays installed on the car, it plugs directly within the engine bay. Visit Burger Tuning website, they have a ton of information that might help you more. I'm not informed enough to intelligently talk about reprogramming, but there are plenty of smart people on this site and plenty of past discussions to reference here.
For me, I settled on the Burger version because I just wanted something simple that I can plug in and remove easily if I wanted to go back to stock and not too pricey with plenty of hp/tq gains in the range I'm comfortable with. |

I wouldn't screw with coding if you don't already have all the crap to go along with it. It's not much though. My Autel does it, but that was also $5,000 hahaha.
A tune is a fantastic way to get past it. I would personally recommend a DME tune, but a piggyback will technically work as it simply tricks the DME into thinking it's making less power than what it really is. It's completely safe, but it's the same tune for any car, one with tons of carbon buildup, maybe a turbo on its way out, etc.. or one that came off the showroom floor with 100 miles. It's tuned for the one with 100 miles. DME tunes are generally datalogged to your car. I had Velocity AP tune my Range Rover and it was a back and forth where they changed the map for my exact car. I had a piggyback on my MINI Cooper S, it definitely added some punch! And it was always safe. But that car had 10,000 miles when I installed it. It performed differently when it had 50,000 miles.

There is so much stuff out there.
I'm torn between the luxury car my wife and I want and the performance car that I want. So I don't want to do so much to it that she feels she lost her luxury car. I wish I had kept my 03 E39 . Question. If I had a Dinan tune on the 750i,can that tune be set for just sport and sport+ mode and not the comfort mode? |

Also even thought my 750i is a 2014 it only has 85,000 miles on it.
Lol it really was owned by older folk who bought it new and all the maintenance was done at a local bmw store. I'm very lucky. |
