This is absurd. If my dealer told me this, I would ask them when they wanted the car dropped off and the check ready to pick up.

Not that it matters, but I don't experience the wind noise at all. Very quite. G70 740i here.

I drove my 760 to Toronto and back so total of around 1000 miles driving. The wind noise at high speed was the most annoying thing. It made the car feel cheap! Up to 65mph its tolerable but anything above that and it gets bad. Around 85mph is so loud and annoying. Obviously if you listen to music at high volume it masks it but at 130k car shouldn't sound like this on the road at high speed. It baffles me that BMW is so so dumb not to make acoustic glass a standard feature on their flagship car. Even most Lexus and Acuras at 40% of this price come with acoustic glass.

Unfortunately you’re not alone in having this problem but at least I don’t hear any wind noise unless it’s really windy outside. At 85mph mine is about as quiet as when I’m going 50.

Not a 1000 mile trip but 250 miles roundtrip Saturday Long Island to Hartford.
If there was wind noise it didn't bother me. Speeds were 80 or more at times. Maybe this is a matter of individual hearing. My hearing is compromised but my hearing aids get it back up to normal levels, but I have learned that people hear different frequencies differently. However, the G70 in both my view and my wife's (whose hearing is quite normal) is significantly quieter than our G12 750. Maybe that is an indictment of the G12, but I don't think so.

As a suggestion to folks that are having issues. If you haven't already, you might carefully examine the triangle area above where the side mirror attaches. This appears to be a rather complex trim piece with overlapping and intersecting gasket seals. This area has been the culprit with several other manufacturers including Lexus and Toyota. In the case of the previous gen LS,the piece sometimes was not properly adhered by a uniform applicaton of adhesive. This would cause fluttering and wind whistle at speed. Might be worth a look.

Oh, you must’ve had a LS460. I remember those days. I had one of the first LS 460L that came off the line. The wind noise was so bad Lexus ended up buying it back from me after 1 year. I decided to give Lexus one more try and bought another (1 yr newer) model. By that time some forum members figured out exactly what the issue was, the loose side mirror triangle. Once it was glued on property, no wind noise whatsoever. Actually, after the fix, LS 460 was one of the quitest cars I’ve ever driven.

Mirror seal is the cause on left and right side. Need to replace both. . This recently just got documented by BMW for excessive wind noise.

Thanks for the info. When you say mirror seal are you talking about the triangle area where the assembly attaches to the car or the seal inside the mirror housing? Is BMW going to issue a TSB?

Yes. There’s information on it but not an SIB yet. Knowledgeable dealers should know by now.

Yes. Wind noise from side mirror is higher than with the G11 (own the latter and drove the G70 quite a bit).

I find the G70 overall a lot quiter than the G11.
But above 100kmh there is this wind noise from the mirror.

Also, the dealer said they did not use the double glass on the G70 to contain weight. This may explain the noise through the glass.

Not necessarily bad engineering but a way to balance the significant weight increase from the G11....

I am still on the fence.

Per previous posts we have laminated "double" glass on the 760i here in the U.S.It is standard laminated and not identified on the stamp as "acoustic".It does provide superior sound insulation over single pane tempered glass. Also, there is apparently a problem with the mirror assembly that is causing some noise issues on certain cars.I would encourage you to do a little more research as to what your specific desired model would have.I'm thinking the EV cars would, at least, have laminated side glass. The 740i has tempered side glass. As previously stated BMW doesn't seem to put a lot of emphasis on upgraded glass tech.

Just circling back with the folks that are having problems with wind noise from the mirror area.Has anyone gotten any resolution or satisfaction from BMW?Problems with mirror noise have manifested on other models, particularly SAV X models.SIB 51 07 22 describes some of those problems.Another member has said dealerships are aware but no SIB has been issued. Please update the Forum if you have any helpful info.Thanks.

Like I said, there is Advanced Information about this issue. Fix is to replace door seal triangles which are behind the mirror mounting triangle. I haven’t personally done it yet but I have heard the wind noise and it did seem the same on both sides and even comparing to another new G70, which lead us to believe that it was a naturla characteristic of the vehicle.

Is it possible for someone here to document (record) the noise and share it?

While I have some wind noise on my driver's side mirror when I'm travelling >80mph or so, I haven't chalked it up as problematic even without music. I assume then that I may not be experiencing the issue.

Is everyone suggesting that the car should be dead-quiet at these speeds? Or are you all hearing a literal whistling noise (my 530e did this literal whistle at low speeds AND high speed and still does).

Like a prior poster, I am not sure what I am supposed to be hearing. I have the engine noise turned off, and yes there is some wind noise at highway speed, but it is unobtrusive and not at all bothersome. Maybe my car was produced properly. There is a faint "whoosh", nothing high pitched or whistling. Conversation is easy and music isn't affected. Am I just hearing impaired, or lucky or not demanding enough?

Known issue. Part replacementis required which entails replacing the triangle seal under the mirror housing mounting and also the exterior door trim strip (which is not available until November 23 or later). So there is currently no fix that can be performed. I’m awaiting parts to perform on a customer vehicle.
