Overlooked - No Adaptive Cruise Control
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Just a heads up, if ACC is important to you, make sure you get the Driving Assitance Pro Package. Other than that, car is great! |

Thank you for in effect falling on the sword with this so others could learn from your experience.
For me, a huge part of why I wanted a G70 in the first place was to obtain the Level 2+ driving, i.e., to be able to drive hands-free on most freeways up to 85MPH. Not only is this "Highway Assistant" feature included in the Driving Assistance Professional Package but the package also contains BMW's Adaptive Cruise Control ("ACC") as well. Even my 2013 Chrysler has ACC causing the car to adjust its speed based on what the car ahead is doing (as opposed to uh, simply crashing into it w/basic cruise control). I wouldn't -- as Karl Malden used to say -- "...leave home" without it. New G70 shoppers, per 760Jax, caveat emptor! |

What's worse is that my $17k BMW R18B has ACC on it at that price, clearly a very cheap part & software. It's definitely a shame you need the Pro pkg to get a basic feature standard on most non-luxury cars that BMW includes on their motorcycles!

I just rented a Toyota Corolla, wow what a difference. It was noisy, uncomfortable, radio sucked, slow, I can keep going. But it did have ACC and it worked quite well!

That's a GREAT question, the answer to which I didn't know until a minute ago when I Googled and found the exact same dilemma re an X3 owner earlier this year. Short but not-inexpensive answer: it seems it is actually possible that it CAN be added. SEE post #5 in the fun and educational thread to read about it: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1984725

No way I would undertake trying to add ACC, too many possible headaches. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I rarely keep a vehicle longer than 18 months so I won't have to live without it for too long. And, for those times I really want ACC, I'll just drive my Toyota Tundra that came equipped with it.

Irritatingly, there isn't a single road in Alaska that works with hands-free driving. I doubt I would really ever use it that much, but it would still be fun to test it out once or twice.

IMO there is no way to add it. Very likely the same module that does the ACC also does the driver assist pro. Also the sensors required are probably similar. It would be an undertaking and it probably wouldn’t come out right. Do you know if you have collision avoidance? Or is that also DAP? |

Well, I merely tried to provide some hope with that precedent; but you're right, that particular 2023 sub-post cited a 10-yr. old vehicle. Otherwise, my first thoughts were also that integration of this would not be feasible. Of course if enough ducats were unwisely thrown at it (wha- $25K?), I'd betcha SOMEBODY would find a way to do it. Money talks. Actually, money screams!
