Automatic door control in app!
Don’t know if it’s a combination of the March software update and/or the new MyBMW app but just noticed they’ve added automatic door control!

I could be wrong but I think you have to have the digital key activated on your phone. I didn’t do anything different, just opened the MyBMW app and it had been updated. I’ve had the digital key activated for at least two months now.

Not sure if us i7 users got the provisioning yet, but I know a lot of i-model owners got false faults today thrown in our apps!
Mine said brake system failure, 12v battery went bad, and high-voltage battery was in need of urgent service, and the faults were back-dated to March 28th .. Looking forward to operating the doors via the app soon. |

I had this happen the first time I tried to use it but then I realized that I needed to hold the button in order for it to operate. Works fine now, no issues. I’m almost sure that you had to have downloaded and installed the last OTA update as well that came out last week sometime.

Got it; another thread suggests the i7 doesn't get the OTA update yet—expected in June—but apparently the i7 can be updated by a dealer. Perhaps that's why I'm neither seeing an update nor the feature visible in my app yet. Definitely really want this feature. |

I assume they don’t want you using it if you can’t see the car, but it would be better if it was there all the time, and just became active when you get close to the car. Thanks for the explanation. |

I have a 760i and was told by the dealer this is a software glitch. |

Once I did the upgrade on the app, the open doors function in the app now works fine. As others have said, you have to be in certain proximity to the car.
Also, you have to keep your finger on the door icon the whole time while it opens. I would still love voice command for you to open the doors from the outside. I’ve been experimenting with iPhone shortcuts and Siri, but have not found any way to make it work. |

It just seems so ridiculous to me, does anyone have an idea as to why this feature icon would come and go the way it does. |

The technology being used to open the door through the app is the same as the digital key, both requiring bluetooth/NFC to communicate with the car. If it was always an option to open it remotely there will be a 15-30 second lag because it has to go through the BMW servers and have the command sent to your car, same method as remote start/unlock-lock/etc... |

Personally, I would consider disabling the buttons with some sort of visual affordance and lock-up text indicating that the user must approach the vehicle, or that this service can only be accessed within certain proximity of the car, as opposed to fully redacting the interface element. |
