Personally I would not keep either one of them past the 75k mile mark, let alone 100k mark. I would be worried about the engine on the m5 depending on how hard it was driven during those 100k miles. |

I get the draw to the bigger cars…. A lot of young guys running around in the 3 series. It is sporty but pending where you live, even higher spec 3s have become a bit of a commodity.
"Investment" advice aside… it sounds like you're in a good place (no judgement if you have "family subsidies")… you have to enjoy yourself at some point, but the expectations should be that you should be prepared for some maintenance costs with these cars. I will say this, maybe it's me, but I live in the city and the G12, not unwieldy like a Suburban, but it's a bit big to zip around. My F10 550i was big enough to be comfortable and small enough to zip for me. It's not cavernous for rear facing baby seats (but I'm guessing that's far off for you), but comfortably transporting friends about for sure. I would highly recommend a G30 M550i or a M5 (if you're looking for the M car). It was quiet and calm when you need it, and fast when you need it. I would have stayed 5 series but needed a more long distance cruiser car since we are driving everywhere with my family now.

Hi there,
The 750 is an amazing car, luxury, looks great (speed and comfort) and can definitely make a lot of sports cars on the road look like a joke if you want to have fun! If you know what I mean... Keep in mind coming from an M5 to a 7 is going to feel like a big change, the car will feel a lot bigger and heavier at first but you will get use to it quickly. The M550 is a great car as well and more sporty than the 7 especially if you get it with carbon-fiber package. I'm not sure I get your comment on the M550 not having the same available options as the M5! The M550 has soft closer doors, B&W, digital climate control front and back and most if not all of the M5 luxurious features. In fact there are many reviews out there that prefers the M550 over the M5 from a comfort point-of-view and for an everyday drive and NOT performance. Regarding reliability of the 7, in my opinion it's luck, you could luck out and drive it for several years with no issues like many members here include me or sometimes issues could start from first year. Getting a CPO is definitely a good idea and if you can extend it beyond two years it's even better. That being said at the end of the day it will be a personal preference, my recommendation is to drive a 2018 750, M550 as well as M550 GC which I think is a great looking and fun car to drive. I think my next car will be an M550 GC! Good Luck! Quote:

Either way it's a fairly easy fix with black vinyl wrap.

Iranjha,
Funny to find this post. I’m way past 22 but still love to drive a car like I was 22. Im on my 9th BMW and my favorite by far has always been a 5 series with a V-8 and sport everything. Never interested in a 6cyl. Also couldn’t afford an M5 but each 5 series from my 540 to my last 550, I absolutely loved the power and handling and each little detail one had over the other, such as active steering. Absolutely loved it! So I wanted to try something different and test drove a 2016 750i pretty much fully loaded. I will be 100% honest, I frickin love the car. It handles very sporty, corners excellent and just as “get up and go” as my 2013 550i. I have no regrets. And from what I understand, there are a couple of “tunes” you can buy that will make the 750 quote Feel like a rocket unquote according to the person writing the post. But like everyone suggests, only you’ll be able to judge by at least a test drive. Those luxury features you didn’t think you’d care about until you’re 50, are very nice at 22 that many 22 year olds don’t realize they CAN have both. Then there’s the fact an M5 is 3 times the price of maintenance as a non-M BMW including the 750i. Good luck with your choice! |

From my point of view, it all depends on your usage and what you want to get from the car.
I had similar "problem" lately: my idea was to add another M5 to my garage as a new daily and since I sold my G11 LCI (diesel powered, they are popular in Europe) with the same price I bought it 2 years ago due to the production problems, so I placed an order immediately. I'm not 22 any more, but I was driving E65 7 series at that age and I loved it M5 was fine for me: went for fully packed Competition model, to get the most of it. Ride was rough, sometimes unpleasant on bad quality roads, but for me it was OK. Unfortunately when I took my wife for the test drive, she said it may be a great car, but she won't be sharing the fun with me, as the overall comfort, especially the seats were something she cannot stand in M5 (she was coming from 7 series). So in short, I have a perfect wife: she doe snot want much in life, she said she will accept everything that is just a 7 series and that is why I jumped into 750i for a daily. I am glad she has low expectations, otherwise I would have to get a Bentley or Rolls. I am a one lucky guy |

Maybe a bit late to the conversation but when shifting back and forth from my X6M and the 750li I absolutely love the quiet and peace I get the with the 750 and it almost makes me forget about the fun of an M car. However the moment i'm back in the X6M i realize how much I love and need it.
My advice: You're too young to be driving a quiet and peaceful car. You can enjoy a 7er in your 30's. For now if you really want to shift I found that the new X6M is a sweet spot. it's a bit stiff yes but it's comfortable. If you REALLY REALLY want a 7er, go for the m760li. I'm sure you can find a 2018 model with all the luxury you need plus the power you're used to.

Have to weigh your desire for performance......and what KIND of performance.
M5 more track and handling performance with straight line speed. M550i more daily driver with milder handling and still great acceleration. Alpina B7 great mix of 7 series style and luxury with near m5 acceleration and m550i style handling. (Damn near perfection). 750i great luxury and comfy ride. not a slouch but not really fast. And the prices they fetch might be a consideration too.....

I am 23 and have been driving G11 750i for over a year now. Conclusion first, I prefer the 7 over F90.
I have a friend that owns an F90 and I have tried his car on several occasions. The most obvious difference is the throttle response and steering weight, the M5 is such a beast when it comes to acceleration and driving confidence. I'm not saying the 750i doesn't have them, the M5 it's just on a different level. Here is the most important part, you are not gonna drive like a maniac everytime you get on the road, in real world situations, you are going to put the M5 in Efficient most of the time. This is when the 750 outperforms the M5, it has much better ride quality and better sound insulation than F90, and legroom in the rear is more than enough just with the short wheelbase version. I got my 750i a stage one tune and it has about 550hp and 770nm compared to M5's 600 and 750, so it is not at too much of a disadvantage when it comes to straight line performance. In fact, I drag raced with my friend's M5(both were on winter tires and no launch control since the G11 doesn't have it) and was a tie. If you are gonna get the 750, make sure you get it with the MP brakes because BMW is cheap enough to give 4 pistons on a 750. These are my experiences with both cars. Hope it will help you make a better decision. |
