M5 versus 750
Hello all,
I'm turning 22 later this year and have been fortunate to enjoy the F90 and all the excitement that it brings when you push the pedal to the floor. However, in the past year or so I've grown to start appreciating luxurious interiors and less aggressive rides a bit more (think M550 as the sweet spot for me). There aren't a whole lot of adequately spec'd M550s sitting on lots and the F90 spoils you with some things that I've come to realize aren't available even as options in any of the other 5 series variants (think digital climate settings, soft close doors, etc). On to my questions: - There are some amazing deals on CPO 2018 750s that are fully loaded. How are the reliability on these cars? I'm looking sub 20k miles. Any insight? - How does the 750 compare to the M5? I know they're both V8s (but obviously heavier and boat-ier) but does it ride more like an M550 or a 540 potentially coming from an F90? - Are there any younger people sitting in 750s and enjoying it lol? Thanks in advance! |

Not sure if serious but, drive them! Best way to gauge if a car suits you is to take a test drive. The G30 and G12s drive very differently. The air suspension in the G12 gives it a completely different character. Also, age is just a number. I know plenty of folks in their 50s who enjoy their M3s.

My 2018 has the wireless charger in the center console. We bought our 750Li for the comfort, but I'll freely admit it's also a lot more fun to drive than our X7. As KK22 said, it's going to be a matter of personal preference, and there's no substitute for a test drive.

I bought my first 750 used at age 25.
Most of my friends went for the 3 or 5 series and recommended I get an m3 or m5. I'm not into driving fast and racing people so the 7 worked out great. Do you want comfort and luxury and enough rear legroom space for your friends or do you want 0-60 and speed? That's really what it comes down to |

If you like racing around and have no worries about hauling folks in the back seat other than small intermittent trips, the M5 is awesome.
If you’re more about the chill experience of getting there, or if you haul folks around often, especially tall folks, the 750 is plenty quick and a great way to drive. Only you know the answers. |

I used to think I cared about 0-60 but I'm growing out of it. I drive fast more than I drag race which is where I think a more comfortable ride would shine. I'm now looking at a 2019 750 absolutely fully loaded more than I'd ever need, and it actually comes out to cheaper than my 2019 M5 payment lol. Crazy how that works |

Just FYI, my Note 9 did not fit in the G30 wireless charging tray, but it easily does in the G12 under the armrest. Also the holder in the 7 has a clip and it fits snug unlike the tray in the G30 where its likely to move around.

Is 34,000 (5000 of those is driving to get it and back, which I'll admit should be fun miles too high for a 2019 750? Assuming I finance over 72 months and hypothetically keep the car for 6 years.
I averaged just under 12,000 miles this past year but that was with lockdown so I'm probably realistically closer to 15k/yr. That puts me close to 125k when the car is paid off. Thoughts? |

One last thing. The payment for this 750 comes out to be $1k/mo. I mean it has everything even Autobahn and NV package which is rare for a car on the lot.
Considering that a brand new M340 LEASED is around $1k and a brand new 540 leased is just over $1k with "comparable" options, how could I pass up the 7 series just to say "I put every mile on this car" and then just give it back after 3 years. CPO route seems like a better deal and I don't have to deal with the first depreciation hit. All I give up is remote start lol which I don't have anyways… |

34k for a 7 is semi high-ish. You won't get many problems under 40k but once u hit 50kish, coolant leaks, grill shutters, shocks, door actuators, comfort access, are all things that can go well before you hit 100k miles. Find a good Indy after your warranty ends or get an extended warranty.

I gotta be honest, ive had alot of fast cars. Race cars ranging from high 8s to mid 7 second quarter mile times, CTSV, turbo cars, my current truck is procharged and makes 600whp.
During all those cars, ive always kept one car as my main daily, a 7 series. Weather that be an e38 10 years ago, a e66 last year or my current g12. My point is that, for me, the acceleration/speed only keeps you interested for a bit. But nothing beats the ride and comfort of these cars, and its not like they are slow by any means either. |

Honestly I'm sold on the car itself but it's the higher mileage that's sorta deterring me right now. 2019 cars only have the warranty/maintenance until 2022 right? I could purchase the extended maintenance and extended warranty until 100k but idk if that's sufficient. And at that point I've put what's probably? close to 8 grand into the car about a year after buying it… kinda discouraging. I wish a lower mileage 750 would pop up in my price range. For some reason under 20k miles feels right to me |

I purchased my 2018 750 with around 28k as a CPO Oct last year. I purchased the 2 extra years for 36/unlimited. .9% through BMW was easy money. Will trade it in around 30 months and get a LCI and keep the cycle going.

It also depends on how much of the work you can do yourself. The main parts of these cars are proving to be pretty stout (engine and trans), but its the little things like the turbo coolant lines that will kill you on labor, but if your doing them urself outside of the warranty period, its not going to be insane. Ill also say that alot has to do with how you treat the car. I had an e38 i drove to 200k miles and sold running with the original chain guides (typically they fail right around 100k). Ive had another 540i, same thing. I had an e66 that i sold with 238k with the original trans and valve seals. Im not by anymeans saying that it wont have issues, but the way you treat them matters. |

Not sure what your price range is, but it sounds like what you really may be wanting is a CPO Alpina B7 if you can find one.
More luxurious than a regular G12, plus a sportier suspension and similar horsepower/torque as your old M5. Plus it can do something only a handful of production cars are capable of: 205mph

Would you rather drive an M5 or a 750 past the 100k mile mark owning the car? Basically if you had to pick one to keep long term apart from their use cases. |
