Car stays on after getting out
So my 17 is at the dealer right now for some scheduled and unscheduled service and while its there i might as well have them look at some concerns.
I need to know if this is normal- When i park the car, ill shut it off. Radio, interior lights all stay on. But they will stay on even after getting out of the car. Basically until i lock the car. I almost feel like my front seat doesnt know i got out. Is this normal? Thanks! |

That's happened to me on numerous BMWs, press stop start button, open door everything still on until I lock it but sometimes it would shut down on opening the door (it seemed to have a mind of its own) my new one with iD7 switches off when the door is opened every time.

the workaround is to 1. lock the car (stupid when the car is in your own garage); 2. long press on the radio button; 3. press option on the iDrive controller and "turn off the vehicle." That's German engineering for ya! |

It doesn't need to be coded. There is an iDrive setting to turn off when the door is open. What you need to do is first shut the engine, then wait a second to open the door. It works pretty consistently as long as you remember to shut down before opening the door.

What made me really think it was messed up was the car will put itself into park as soon as the door is open.
My E66 needed the door open AND weight off the seat to put itself in park (when id stretch really far to get the mail out of my mail box) And whats even more annoying, itll put its self in park as the soft close doors are shutting the door. |
