transmission / xdive / differential - service

What are your experiences with this type of work or service in your cars. In Ireland, even on a special request of the client, it is not possible to carry out this service at a BMW dealer. (lifetime maintenance)
This is a very strange behavior of the dealer for me because the company ZF recommends servicing the gearbox 50,000 to 75,000 miles
I did a gearbox (atf and filtration) with xdrive (dtf) and oil in the differential at 81K km (50K miles) - invoice for 510 €

Color of liquid;
  • transmission - green
  • xdrive - red
  • differential - gold

What are your experiences with this type of service..?

No experience with BMW yet, but remember with a 2014 Audi A6 DSG we had on fleet, where the gearbox failed into limp mode. It was supposed to have had a gearbox service after 40-50k miles, which the fleet co’s maintainer said they had done, but main dealer proved they hadn’t and wouldn’t then cover under warranty. We had to force the lease co to take the car back, as even after the fix, it kept failing.

I would never miss a scheduled DSG/auto gearbox service, and can’t understand why manufacturers say they are sealed for life, when the designer and manufacturer of the gearbox suggests otherwise. I have seen this same scenario on Jag XJ and Audi A8 too.

There are some specialist firms that do this, and many on the Jag and Audi forums have used them and swear by them, but having had my BMW for nearly 4 years, and only done 14.5k miles, it is not something I have investigated yet, but as it is probably a very similar gearbox, I can’t see why it would be any different.

I think I would go with ZF’s recommendation.
