7 series G11 rear armrest bmw tablet holder mechanism fix?

Hello

I’m new to the forum and hoping somebody has had the same issue from kids bashing the rear armrest ! The youngest kept pressing the tab down when no ipad was in place.

The tablet used to pop up when pressing the release button in the rear armrest.

The release button now flashes continuously and the mechanism to release the tablet fails. The lock tab to hold the tablet in place doesn’t move nor does the plastic tab to pop the ipad out its dock.

Has anyone removed this part to fix or am I looking at a replacement from dealership ?

Thank you for any advice or a fix on this.
Rodger.

So this youth play will cost you quite dearly;

  • option one - 378£ (eBay)
  • option two - 700€ - 800€ (BMW online parts)

As for the ways to repair it will be rather hard. There was something about the problems with the tablet tray system, but I did not meet any repair solutions.

Based on the above 2 cost options, neither of which includes any dealer labour to swap, if it is truly broken, what do you have to lose trying to strip it down and seeing what is going on inside. I expect there are a number of springs inside, one or more of which may have become detached. If you mess it up, you are no worse off than you are today, but if you fix it, great. That would be my approach.
