Let's all keep Juan in our thoughts as well, it seems his condition is taking a turn for the worst. Obviously hoping he pulls through and can live a normal life once again.

Terrible news. Hopefully he can beat the odds so the already tragic incident doesn't become more so.

Update on Correa from a few days ago:

Quote:
September 13
Juan Carlos and Maria Correa provide additional information on Juan Manuel Correa:

“Our son, Juan Manuel, remains in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in London, England with my wife and I at his side. We have good days and bad days as well as long nights and short nights but with the support of the motorsports community, our friends, family, country and fans, we continue to pray for Juan Manuel.

Juan Manuel remains in a state of induced coma with paralysis in order for his lungs to get as much rest as possible. Continuing to be assisted by an ECMO machine many of the key vital indicators have improved slightly while others have deteriorated very little. We have been reminded by the doctors that as long as Juan Manuel continues in an upward trend of improvement, even if very little, it is all that we can ask for at the moment. Infections are under control and respiratory indicators remain stable and all vital signs continue to remain consistent and stable.

We believe in our son's strength and determination, we see the minor improvement as an indication of him starting to turn the tide in his favor, we just need him to do it a little quicker. Doctors continue to monitor and change the bandages on the lower legs when necessary and confirm that the fractures are multiple and severe. Additional surgeries will be required once Juan Manuel’s lungs improve to a state that it is safe for doctors to proceed.

We would like to thank each and every person that has called, text, sent emails and reached out on social media. We have received and read or continue to read and show all the messages to Juan Manuel. Your messages help him to fight and never give up. This will be the biggest single motivator for Juan Manuel when he regains consciousness. We invite fans and friends to continue to send supportive messages via social media or to Info@JMCorrea.com. Again, thank you for your support.” #StayStrongJM

Small update on Correa's condition from today:

Quote:
There has been a slight improvement in Juan Manuel Correa’s condition as his “lungs have gradually recovered”, but he remains in an induced coma.

The Formula 2 driver suffered fractures to both of his legs and a minor spinal injury during a horror crash that killed Anthoine Hubert at Spa on August 31.

The 20-year-old has spent the past few weeks in Intensive Care in a hospital in the United Kingdom and there has been some positive news with regards to his lungs, but they are still not strong enough to withstand surgery.

“Juan Manuel remains in the Intensive Care Unit in a state of induced coma. Although his lungs have gradually recovered, his respiratory functions continue to be assisted by ECMO and a breathing ventilator,” a statement said.

“Juan Manuel’s leg injuries remain an important concern and will undergo immediate surgery once his lungs are strong enough to withstand the procedure.”

Correa has 'improved' from critical to serious having been taken out of induced coma which he's been in for two weeks. He's semi conscious and not yet in a condition for surgeons to operate on his legs.

Here's the most recent update from his family. Not sure if you saw the same update, but my heart just sank a bit more when I read it. I knew he wasnt in the best condition, but this last update just painted a really grim picture...

Quote:
As of today, Juan Manuel Correa has been removed from the ECMO machine, life support and taken out of induced coma. While this is great news and a major step in the right direction, he is still in a race against time.

Juan Manuel is conscious, but not fully yet awake. Doctors report that this will take a few days due to being in induced coma for more than two weeks. They have also stated that Juan Manuel is fragile and still vulnerable medically speaking and that he remains in the Intensive Care Unit. His condition has been upgraded from critical to serious.

The medical priority for Juan Manuel now shifts from the lungs to the leg injuries that were sustained more than two weeks ago and have not been addressed since the initial emergency intervention the day of the incident. Doctors are in a race against time to perform a pending major surgery in order to minimize risk of irreversible injuries to his right lower extremity but can’t proceed until lungs are ready to withstand a lengthy operation.

Yes it's just terrible, think of his damaged legs which have unfortunately been "healing" themselves while he's in a coma. The surgeons will need to break all of that to set the bones etc. the right away. Just a horrible situation to be in. Continued thoughts and prayers for Juan and his family.

Small update on JMC's status:

Quote:
A month after the accident, Correa was stable enough for surgeons to operate on his legs with the Ecuadorian deciding against amputation.

A statement on social media read: Doctors performed a combination of Orthopedic Flap and External Fixation Surgeries, and after 17 hours in the operating room, the 20-year-old emerged with hopeful news from doctors that the surgery was successful.

‘During the procedure, doctors were forced to remove more bone material than they anticipated and solve several blood vessel issues, but state that the main objective of the surgery was achieved.’

Correa, who will remain in hospital for a further six weeks, has spoken publicly for the first time and acknowledges the fight that awaits him in his recovery.

The motorsport community (which includes us) are grateful that COR has been released from the induced coma and the impending surgery (one of many, I'm sure) has been successfully completed; an unbelievable 17 hour surgery (thank you surgical team) and COR's courage to choose the hardest road ahead (decision not to amputate his right foot)....

Asking for continued healing and for COR to continue pushing through the pain and the months/years it will take - sending healing and courage now.

This is not good; it is so incredible to see such a massive shunt and to see the driver walk away....today's cars are so much safer than the cars that are pre-1980's....unsure what happened - it didn't look like it caught air at the top of Raidillon - perhaps a puncture?

Looked like puncture or perhaps a suspension piece broke (the violent turn back toward the wall).
