I've had mine for 10 months with zero issues. The owner before also had no issues inside or out. During the CPO process, the dealer performed TSB/recall for the turbo lines (SIB 11 11 18) otherwise the car hasn't had any issues at all. Not everyone will be as lucky of course, but I've generally never had any issues with any of the 4 BMWs that I've owned.

I got a '16 one (11k miles) in June. Two mo after the warranty had expired the air supply system for the ride height went kaput at 12500 miles. Thankfully, BMW paid for 95% (my portion was $128); but if you ask me, I'm not impressed with the reliability, or the lack of. Build quality is first-rate, though.

I had wondered what would be the end result of reliability for USA G12s. Question I do have is, when did US specification production begin? Previous 2016 MY 740i was assembled in November 2015 and delivered on December 28, 2015. Overall production began on July 1, 2015. Does anyone have a build date that early?
Getting an Imperial Blue 2016 750i w/luxury and rear packages for her Dec. 27th birthday surprise wasn't going to work as of November 30, 2015 (first date of inquiry), so it meant having to settle for a 740i. In comparing the I6 740i to the current '19 we have, I feel like the 2016 was much smoother in terms of the powertrain delivery. N63 requires the fan to be running after every single drive and at under 10k now, I can only imagine how a 2016 750i owner feels. Never was the case with our 2016 car. The 2019 750i M-Sport feels very sensitive and fragile by comparison. Last edited by DrANW; 01-30-2020 at 04:13 PM.. |

Felt good enough to get a 2020 750i as a replacement. "Sensitive and fragile" are words I would not use for this car. It is solid. Enjoy your 740. It is a fine car. So is the 750.

The 2019 750i M-Sport is the current vehicle BTW, as my photos are in flipped order. (2019, 2015, 2016). I don't how you would've misconstrued that in the first place though. Last edited by DrANW; 02-06-2020 at 09:10 PM.. |

I thought the juice was worth the squeeze. When you can buy a car with 20 months of CPO warranty for 30% of it's original price. For a daily driver, luxo-barge...hell yes!!! Thank you, Dr Whoeveryouare for paying for the first $75K of my car

Funny, "Dr M" still comes up on my nav welcome screen from the previous owner and I give the same thanks.

At 10k miles, tires on both G12s (both 2016 and 2019) are recommended for replacement. Vehicles are not driven hard, so it doesn't make sense, when one doesn't get any alerts on TPMS and the tread seems fine.
This magically only came up, when it was insisted they fix the Rear Entertainment Professional per warranty and not mentioned during routine service 1 month earlier. Cash grab? |

If your tread is evenly worn it is highly unlikely new tires are needed at 10k miles. Did they say why they are recommending new tires? It is true that tires have time limits as well as tread wear that come into play for replacement. But it is usually recommended at 6 to 10 years, regardless of mileage -- here not for a '16 and a '19. Sometimes tires can deteriorate but here they are saying both the '16 and '19 need new ones. That sounds like a SA looking for added customer charges and a service department that is unethical.

My Bridgestone 20” tyres have done 16k miles from new and still between 4mm and 5mm, so expecting 25k miles out of them, so yes 10k is rather low, especially given you have not been lighting them up!
Also, in the EU the tyres have a manufactured date code on them, ie 5216 - being week 52 2016. As previously stated, 5-6 years is about the point at which you may see some perishing, but regional weather conditions will accelerate or slow this. Change dealer!

One heard similar in 2016 at 10k, after taking delivery of the blue 740i above in December 2015. Now it's deja vu. I'm not surprised, as they claimed upon delivery this was one of the most fully optioned V8 7-Series they've ever sold in their 32-year history. Didn't know what that would mean going forward. |

I will say I do smell burnt oil frequently but I had an E61 wagon with N54 engineer previously and it had the same smell. I chalk it up to the turbos. If anyone has insight on that I would like to hear. The car is a dream to drive. So much so that I force my wife and two kids to come in my car instead of my wife's Q7. Just love the ride and the feel. And I don't have to move my seat up for the car seats at all. They can't even kick my seat! |

In the past, the general manager was called aside on the 2016 and they handled the issue to our satisfaction. They've been politely warned they'll lose a sale next time if they don't get it together. Took the car to see some patients and ignored the service advisor. He said that the tires are bubbling. Quite coincidental how this keeps happening at around 10k and that this wasn't mentioned until AFTER a warranty repair was demanded for the Rear Entertainment Professional. |

Service advisor said they were bubbling, not knowing one heard similar 3 years earlier on the 2016. Pointed out with annoyance, that this keeps happening and better change soon, plus we were not paying to fix anything or next car won't be a 7-Series. Sadly, the local Group 1 owned BMW dealer has a monopoly on both TX/Southern NM customers and in some cases, Mexican customers from across the border (bordering city doesn't have a BMW MX dealer for 250 miles in Chihuahua City). Sandia BMW is nearly 300 miles away and San Antonio and Midland are too far away. |

I would be demanding to be shown the bubbling on the tyres, and then demanding that they replace them under warranty, as at this mileage and age they must be defective - didn’t Dunlop have an issue with tyres bubbling in the US a number of years ago?
May also be worth you going to a reputable local tyre shop to get them checked out - it will give you evidence either way to tackle the dealer with. We have some dealers in the UK, not BMW that I have experienced, that do this sort of thing, and when reported to manufacturer, call it up sell! They are actually targeted and rewarded to extract additional cash from customers.
