New beater
I needed a new beater, and ended up purchasing a Seiko SKX173. It's a nice watch for $190 new, considering it's an automatic with day and date complications. I've only just got it, and I actually like this thing quite a bit.

I love Seiko Divers! The 173 is a great value. If you want to change up the look, there are all sorts of strap options for these and almost none of them look bad. Most of mine are sporting some type of Zulu/Nato strap and I love them all. Nice work.

I might actually want to get my hands on the Seiko Oyster bracelet for this watch as well, but I think that might involve replacing the spring bars, so I'm still looking into my options. |

Nice. I've got a Seiko as well (it's my one and only "real" watch if we ignore the Fossil watch I had in 8th grade and the Casio watch I had in elementary school). I'm not much of a watch guy but I like the way it looks and it's great value @ $200.

Yes sir, and I'd go so far as to say that most of them are generally well received by watch enthusiasts, particularly the divers (Orange/Black Monster, SKX007, SKX009, SKX173). You can usually find these watches new for >50% off MSRP if you look around. Citizen has some nice Eco-Drive watches as well. |

I just got a new daily beater as well. I've had a skyhawk eco drive for the last 10 years and it's starting to show some wear. I acquired some points from purchases i made within my coop and this watch was available through the rewards program. So i decided to try a black watch. So far, i like it well pretty well. It has some useless features in my opinion but one of the nice features is that when traveling it will sync time change with your iPhone via bluetooth. That and never needing a battery of course.

Seems to be.
I think the green part of the strap is ballistic nylon. Feels like fabric from my Tumi gear. Not sure what the black part is, but when i hit it on something just a little rubbing makes the mark go away.

I've got a Seiko Black Monster...
-It's just as accurate as both my Omega Planet Ocean and Seamaster... just can't synchronize the second hand... but there is a work around -quality is just as good -More durable... so it is my daily watch and it still picks up less nicks than either of my Omegas... on a trip to Japan a few years ago I noticed all the fine watches that people on the subway have (Omegas, Rolex, etc)... however it would be so crowded that my Seiko Monster would clank against their fancy watches... and my Seiko has no battle scars from that - Very easy to read at night as the markings glow just as bright and as long as the Omega's as well |

same here, my beater is a SRP orange monster.. i like the hacking & winding features of the new OM, but the original Monster's are still great
good watch, keeps good time (averaging +5sec/day), the only thing i wish is that the power reserve was a little better, other than that.. you can't go wrong for a $200 automatic |
