Some advice please

Hi all,

I know quite a few of you are knowledgeable on watches and so it made sense to come here for some advice.

I currently have an Omega Seamaster which I have had a few years now.

It is my 30th in December and I would like to mark the occasion with a gift of another watch to myself.

I am looking at Rolex (Submariner mainly) or a Breitling (I like the Navitimer and Chronomat) although I am open to suggestions.

Probably looking at buying a pre owned one but I am off to New York in December so was wondering if this would be a better option of buying either whilst in the USA or at the airport.

Thanks in advance.

Since our currency so cheap to yours and you wouldn't be saddled with VAT, I assume a watch here in the US is cheaper than even a used one for you at home, no? Take a look at the bigger shops like Wempe and Tourneau and check US pricing.

I'm not a huge Rolex or Breitling fan, but why should you care about that? Buy what you like. Subs are nice, especially on a Nato strap and do hold their value quite well, so it's hard to go wrong with that.

47th Street in NYC

Take a walk down 47th street (the diamond district) hundreds of pre owned dealers selling every type of watch. I have always window shopped, so I don't know what type of deals they offer on pre owned, or how much they will negotiate. I'm not a fan of the big T.

I think Rolex is one of the better values, a Sub will likely appreciate in value over time, and almost any competent watch maker can service a Rolex.

Thanks for the advice.

I am swaying toward the Rolex just for its resale value should the time ever come to it.

I'll have a look in the boutiques and the pre owned shops and see where the best deals are.

Is there any benefit of paying the premium for a new one as opposed to second hand?

What about a Panerai? A Panerai PAM164 for example.
Classic italian beauty.
Similar price range too.

new vs pre owned.

As long as the pre owned is from a trusted seller, and authenticated, I see no value in new vs pre owned.
