Bmw 760i drive mpg

Thought I ask those who have had their 2023 or 2024 760i xdrive, how is the gas mileage on highway driving? It's rated at 25 by BMW and EPA but car and driver mentioned 30 mpg which is impressive. Just wanted to get some real world experience. I commute 550 miles a week and prefer the V8 but debating between this and the i7. I just like the higher cruising range of the 760 if I need to take long trips.

I'm looking to replace the 2022 Mercedes S580.

This is where they did real world highway driving with the 760i xdrive and got 30 mpg. So I was a bit shocked. If this V8 gets 28 mpg or so, I am happy especially with the small 19.3 gallon gas tank.

Since "mpg" was the operative word in your post title, you might want to realistically assess if the bulk of your driving is predicated on long trips or daily commuting. If 95% of it is the latter, an excellent decision may in fact be to go with the i7 or even their wonderful PHEV version, the 750e (where you can travel 35 miles at speeds up to 87MPH on its electric power alone).

Even if you get the i7 and DO take an occasional truly long trip once every two years or so, its 300+ miles range is outstanding.

Whether or not you go ICE, EV, or PHEV, all of the G70/7 Series vehicles enjoy the same level of comfort and ride. Putting my money where my mouth is, I decided to finally go fully electric and ordered an i7 eDrive50. It has 449HP (much more power than anybody really needs and half as much MORE than my beefy Chrysler), and the same 549 lb. ft of torque as the xDrive60 (for rocket-ship pull and acceleration). It boasts the highest range (321 miles) of any i7 model, and is $20,000 less than the xDrive60. BTW, the EPA rates it at 87 eMPG city, and 95 eMPG highway, a HUGE savings over ICE vehicles and overall, an absolute steal of a deal.

Of course there's no doubt you'll enjoy ANY G70 trim. Good luck!

Good point! I do 95 miles a day on highway near my home. I already have the level 2 juice box in my garage for our X5 50e and can add the second charging port for the I7. I'm glad BMW decided to offer all the options for the 7 series unlike Mercedes which has the ugly EQS. I'll test drive both the i7 and the 760 this week.

I haven't kept track other than watch the in car calculator but in a 760 I have been getting 24-29 on mixed highway and local trips (approx 50 mi hwy and 30 miles of local roads to get to a second home). If it is really light on the local roads, it'll be closer to 28-29, maybe even 30, and with more traffic, closer to 24. I'd say my overall average is 26-27.
On longer trips with mainly highways and moving traffic, I might occasionally see 30 or more but not sustained for the whole trip. I don't drive in ECO mode and I also don't care about beating the guy next to me at a stoplight.

Here are some screenshots of my recent trip from Florida to Virginia.

When my average speed was 82.7mph I averaged 26.4mpg and when it wss 67mph I averaged almost 29mpg. I think if I drove closer to 55mph I’d get better than the 30mpg epa estimate

Thats good to know. I appreciate you sharing your experience! What was the best cruising range on a tank of gas before you filled it up? Hoping for around mid 500s plus miles on a tank.

Can I ask what it was about the S580 that made you want to switch to the 7 series?

While its a nice car, it doesn't have that driving feel like my previous Audi A8L and it feels fussy over bad roads with the 20s. Does not have that smooth solid feel at higher speeds like the A8l or 7 series. The transmission is lazy even in sports.

The mbux without the buttons on the center console makes certain thing frustrating as well as the touch steering wheel buttons. I sat in the 7 and love the feel of the center Idrive system in addition to the touch screen. The steering wheel buttons are also much better and higher quality than the S. I will be test driving the 7 soon next week.

Thanks for the info. I have been trying to decide between the S580 and the 7 series. I traded my last 7 series in when I bought my M5 Competition. It’s an awesome car and fun to drive but, I’m ready for that smooth ride again.

Mbux is infuriatingly unintuitive and quirky. iDrive is not perfect but is leaps and bounds easier to use. Ask my wife, who has a '23 E450 wagon, and who also drives our '23 X3 with id7 and my 760 with id 8.5. She has said, "next time I want a BMW." I test drove the MB S class and liked its styling , thought the interior was nice -comparable to the 7, but thought its handling was inferior to the 7, in addition to not liking the electronics at all. IMHO MB makes great cars to be a passenger in but BMW does better for the driver.

Just ran 1700 miles up and down I-95 (Orlando to/from Alexandria VA) with a brand new set of high perf winter tires (21" Pirelli P-Zero Winter). I saw a 10% decrease in mileage from my summer tires, also, roads were very wet. Actually saw 24 mpg with cruise control set at 75-80.

Yesterday about 250 miles from Long Island to National Harbor outside DC. Frequent long stretches of stop and go traffic. average speed under 50. Mileage 27+. I’d say that’s pretty good.

I have similar commute, 60 miles each way from home to my main office. And a couple times a month I make the trek to my Michigan office, which is actually just outside of Bloomfield Hills.

I think it's very plausible to squeeze out 30mpg on the highway, with an open road and cruising steady-state. My 7 series is a 2021, so it's the previous generation vehicle and its V8 lacks the 48V mild hybrid tech, but even so I can often approach and even surpass 30 mpg an any given highway trip. I log ever fill up (partly for tracking, and also just a habit I picked up many years ago) and my overall average is 26.6MPG over the past 32K miles.

For reference, Car and Driver logged 29mpg on the same highway test with the G12 LCI 750 like mine. And they registered 32 with the S580. You could probably compare how that car does in your commute to their result to get a feel for what you might get with a 760.

I have seen highway mileage of 26.5 mpg, keeping the speed to 75-80 mph. This was with summer tires.

I am currently running Pirelli P-Zero winter tires and have seen a 10-12% decrease in fuel mileage.

This is great information! I live in Bloomfield Hills btw. I am going to do another test drive of the 760i xdrive this weekend and place the order for it and trade in the S580. The MBUX system went completely blank 2x during the cold temps we had here in Michigan in Jan and I was fedup as I couldnt get the heater to work without the touchscreen etc. Defeats the purpose of a 120k plus car.
