Installed updated parts for the wind noise issue. Wind noise is greatly reduced at driver side window area.

What are the part numbers? Is there a document that I can forward to my dealer, they say that there is no information from BMW on the problem…

There is an SIB for it. It only applies to G70. They simply need to search for “wind noise” and filter G70. If they can’t figure that out then I really don’t know how much more to help them do something so basic…. Ask for the foreman to search for it on TIS.

I am a long time MB S Class driver and am here researching the I7, as I believe I may go that way. It is amazing that the same gripes about build quality issues are all over the MB forums. I find it very interesting to hear about the lack of acoustic glass in the new 7. My last BMW was a new 1995 750il. It had laminated side glass. At night, when you looked through the glass into the rear view mirror, all the headlights you saw were TRIPLED. If there was one car back there, you saw SIX headlights! On the freeway at night, it was just about impossible to judge what was behind you. BMW bought that car back on that issue. So, here I am, almost 30 years later, thinking of finally going back to a 7 series and one of the first things I read about has to do with wind noise & side glass.

Sooooo, just check the box "climate acoustic package" and you'll be fine

(In Germany that package consists of Comfort glazing, Solar control glazing and Thermal comfort package - whatever the English marketing expressions are)

Can someone confirm that such an option is available in the USA?

Maybe I was on the wrong track there, deeply sorry.
I checked the US configurator and couldn't find any of the options, but they don't seem to be "standard" as well... this is very awkward... I can't think of a single reason to not make this available to foreign markets, especially if the vehicles are also built in Dingolfing/Germany...

No problem, but it is strange as the S Class MB in the US has had acoustic glass as standard equipment for many years now.

Hey Stream!

All 760s and i7s in the US have laminated acoustic glass. It looked to me like that wasn't the case also, but I have manually checked every one I have seen and they all have it.

Welcome to the forum Stream!I followed your posts on the MB Forum several years back.I had a '15 and '17 S550.I also followed parts of your buy back saga on the W223.Over the last 50 years I've had 8 MB's and 8 BMW's.I'm in a 2023 760i and I love it.It was one of the first delivered in Nov. '22.I've had one continuing problem-a rough idle coming off the ASS.They cannot diagnose or repair so I just live with it.It's pretty minor.I think you'll find the G70 superior in build quality, ride, handling, body control, suspension compliance, quietness, steering, etc. over the W223.But,as I've posted on other threads and confirmed with BMW,the G70 does not have true acoustic glass with the special acoustic interlayer in any of the glass. It has standard laminated glass all around.BMW offers what they call "acoustic glass" on the X7 but it appears to be the same as on the G70 with no special markings or codes designating it "acoustic".Typically, with other manufacturers, you will see something in the glass ID "bug".I've questioned why BMW would not provide AG on their flagship. The car is still very quiet but true AG would provide that 2-3db difference that would be noticeable to a sensitive ear.Hope this helps.

That is very helpful.
Man I love this forum - it seems that even "simple" things about this car seem very complex

I have attached some screenshots from the German configurator.

There is a package consisting of "comfort glazing", "solar control glazing" and something like a "heat comfort package" which gives you heated seats in the rear and heated armrests, sw heating etc. in the front.

These options can't be purchased seperately here, so the acoustic glass is always combined with the tinted window (solar control glazing) here.

So, does every US G70 have tinted windows in the back??

What is standard in the US configuration?

Standard U.S. configuration is standard laminated glass all around with no rear window tint. You can spec the the 356 option for Climate Comfort Glass for $1300.I have that option.Neither is true acoustic glass.

Just because the glass is not labeled as acoustic does not mean it isn't acoustic. None of the glass in my S Class is labeled as acoustic.

Acoustic glass for the G70 is not called out on the glass itself,on the website/configurator,the build sheet,or the Monroney sticker.Plus,I have confirmed by email from BMW Customer Relations that it is not on the car.It is called out by all those sources, except on the glass itself,on the X7.Personally,I think that is a marketing ploy by BMW and it is not true acoustic glass either. All sources that I have found indicate that when the acoustic interlayer is used in the lamination sandwich it is called out on the glass itself with the word "acoustic",the letter "A",or a pictogram.I'll let folks draw their own conclusions.

Thanks for your in-depth research!
It is called acoustic glass (Akustikverglasung) in the German configurator, but this can easily be a copy/paste thingy from the G11 configurator of the past - or from the X7 ;D
I'll trust your sources... and it is how it is anyways :-)

Looking at this Pricing Guide, I get the idea that the Climate Comfort Glass is only available on the I7 M70. Is that right?

Then the S Class doesn't have acoustic glass either, so it makes sense the 7 wouldn't.

No, its available its just not standard. I inquired about this, all the glass is laminated this just gives you the IR rejecting glass that we have standard on the S Class.

I found the sun much hotter coming through the glass of the 7s I drove so that IR rejecting glass does work. If I ordered I would get this, but if I found one on the lot I liked I would just have the windows tinted

My Volvo S90 has much better wind and traffic noise without laminated glass...

What do you advice?
I also had my triangle mirror parts and door seal trims replaced. The noise has reduced but is still there. Can hear lots of traffic still. Doubtful they will do anything else to fix the noise issue…

This issue isn’t for hearing noise outside the vehicle. It is specifically for wind noise while driving at higher speed.
