Garage Picture | 2023 BMW 760i
I know the split headlights were (and still are) controversial. Even I was one of the people who wanted to “wait to see” the car in the metal first and even then, I wasn’t sold on them right away. Now, though, several months and a long roadtrip in to my G70 ownership, I think the headlights are my favorite exterior feature.

I love the headlights. I just wish they'd tone down that snout of a grill. I'm really glad this is blacked out on my 760.
The 5 Series seems to get away with keeping a semi-normal set of kidney grilles, but the rest of BMW's lineup has gone over the top with this huge grille trend. |

While I don't myself care for the M-Sport shark-tooth front fascia, I certainly don't find either the headlights or grill objectionable whatsoever (in fact, mine will have the ability to be illuminated). Otherwise and overall, there's an attractive boldness and panache in every single G70 front irrespective of configuration. Hey, single front headlight/turn signal setups are for chumps! Am I right?!

I have done a near 180 on this car. I went from absolutely hating it to actually really liking it. I prefer the luxury trim though, I wish it was available on the 760 or the 750e, I'm not sure I'm ready for full EV...

Many of the haters had never seen and may even now have never seen a G70 other than in pictures on the internet. The car has a presence in person that cannot be conveyed by internet photos. My wife, who by no means can be categorized as a car nut (like me) thinks it is "gorgeous." Then of course there is the interior and finally the driving experience. I have liked this car more than any other and as my signature shows, I have had a lot of cars.

![]() Exactly. And this is an extremely pointless and tedious discussion because it never ends. Regulars are throwing out slogans to somehow talk the car down (no haptic buttons, ugly design, EV discussion in general) and it feels like they're only doing it to somehow make the old 318i in their garage look better - and nobody has even begun to deeper look at the car, the operating concept, etc. And when they finally see it live, they put out their phones because they are so impressed by the presence and looks. Please don't misunderstand, tastes are different, but this is little more than a debate about envy at the end of the day. It's actually a very German phenomenon I thought ![]() I wasn't "sold" either when I first saw the G70 on pictures and videos, but damn, see it live and fall in love, right ![]() It's even fascinating in some "professional" YouTube reviews. The G70 is simply not a car that you can understand and operate 100% in 10 minutes. And it's not supposed to be. A friend who works at BMW once said that a car that all the designers/decision-makers at the table like will not be built. The cars should polarise. And at the same time offer the most comfortable driving experience possible. And I can also say that I have never driven a car in my life in which I have felt so comfortable and which has triggered so many positive emotions in me as the G70. So - configure the 7 Series the way you like it and just have fun with the best car on the planet at the moment ![]() Last edited by Berliner; 02-13-2024 at 03:06 AM.. |

i'd like to add my 2 cents...
Quote:
the reaction of the people i can identify is mostly positive. i had people in a m3 to slow down when taking over to look and smile/thumb up, one guy once took a picture when it was parked and others looking and smiling. is it a beast? yes, absolutely! is it ugly? no, it's different - and to come back to the quote of AlteBMW: you have to see this car in real life. what i have as explanation for myself is: the grill and other design elements look really bulky and crude on pictures -> because your brain compares the size to some 3 series BMW or some VW/Skoda. once you stand in front of the car you see it's big making the design elements appear in non-distorted relation to the car. and it's stupid. yes, a lot of stuff is automated and so, but the touch stuff is garbage (seat setting, mymode, parking cam...)! the worst exampla is the touch bar on the center lower screen of the new S-class - it feels really cheap! even after 6 month i have to say: i want real buttons! |
