2024 740i bass disappearing from Bowers and Wilkins
So I just leased a new 2024 740i with the Bowers and Wilkins sound system. Everything sounded great until I was driving for about 30 minutes and the bass completely left the system. I went into settings, turned the bass all the way up and down and there was no change. Turned the car off and on... Nothing...
Waited about an hour and the bass was magically back. Today I drove for 30 minutes and the same thing happened twice. So it seems like at the 30 minute mark for whatever reason all the bass in the system disappears. Obviously I am going to take this back into BMW but does anyone have a diagnosis on this? |

I can't or won't begin to diagnose an audio problem in a vehicle, but in my 60+ years dealing with music and music systems, if by "suddenly" you mean abruptly/all at once, it'd normally mean a positive or negative wire (or even both wires) came loose at the speaker or audio terminals and needs to be cinched down. Obviously that's easy to remedy in a home sound system where all is accessible; with a vehicle, that may be something else. That's just my immediate interpretation but I certainly HOPE that's not the problem with a brand new BMW like many of us here own. Somebody else (or others) will surely provide another opinion; otherwise, hi-ho, hi-ho, it's off to the dealer you go.
Don't forget to let us know the actual outcome so we might all get an education or warning as needed. |

Going in tomorrow, will definitely update. The weird part is that it happens exactly at the same time every single time. Right at the 30 minute mark of driving. It's truly bizarre.

I assume your RAM is failing. Take a video if you can of the issue. Try then rebooting the iDrive by holding down the volume knob for 70 seconds.
Was it just bass or all audio besides some like faint audio coming from only the dash center speaker? I had a brand new G70 with a failing RAM. Would operate for a few minutes and then the entire audio system would go out except for the dash speaker which wasn’t power by RAM. It sounded like playing music from your 2008 phone speaker |

It did very much sound like a 2008 phone speaker. You might be spot-on about the RAM. Although I bet at the dealership they will just tell me I need some kind of software update.
Also I could just be missing something obvious but I don't believe there is a physical volume knob on the new 740 to reset the iDrive. There is a roller for the volume that I don't believe acts as a button. I'm sure there is another way to reset iDrive if that's the case. |

?????.
Just out of curiosity -- your profile/avatar showed your location "Canada" (until you changed it to "Russia"). Are you in Russia or Canada -- why the discrepancy? Last edited by DroMike; 02-18-2024 at 11:22 AM.. |

Bring to dealer and have them inspect sound system. There will likely be no faults. But if you just let the sound play and keep monitoring it will likely fail and result in noticeable sound change. Had to replace one on a brand new 23 with like 100 miles months ago. Swapped in a know good to test and verified faulty booster.
